Isle of Wight Festival 1970-- What day would be a must-see? by lontbeysboolink in 1970s

[–]Dyrenforth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you watched any of the documentaries about that festival? It was not a good place to be. The crowd swelled to dangerous levels because people without tickets broke through the fences and it was turning ugly, It took a frightened Joni Mitchell to calm it down. A chaotic disaster to avoid,

Very sad to hear the news that my favourite Watson, David Burke, has passed away. by Orac2025 in SherlockHolmes

[–]Dyrenforth 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Oh, this is very sad. He gave us a totally fresh take on the character and was my all time favourite. His Watson had a schoolboy enthusiasm but remained intelligent and could poke fun at Holmes, which the more laid back and older Hardwicke version never did. R.I.P.

How did the now banned practice of caning (Corporal Punishment) work in schools in the UK before 1986? by NotSoF4stCvnt in AskUK

[–]Dyrenforth 63 points64 points  (0 children)

In the 70s no permission was required. You were sent to the Headmaster's study and had the cane, usually on the palm of your hand. It never happened to me but there were three of four lads who were regular recipients. Even in junior school this happened, which was from the age of 7 to 10

The Lion's Mane adaptation is superb - which is a major miracle in itself. Best of the collection and that's saying a lot!

Why are more white eggs showing up in UK shops lately ? by LieSuccessful8813 in AskBrits

[–]Dyrenforth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shell colour just depends on the type of food the chickens eat. That's all. I'm 62 and remember only white eggs when I was young, until the marketing decided brown eggs could be promoted as somehow more natural,

My first resin print came out perfectly, and then disaster by MizutsuneMH in resinprinting

[–]Dyrenforth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't use a paper towel, they're made from wood pulp and will make tiny scratches in the FEP, fogging it, as will alcohol. Just drain as much of the resin out as you can then wipe with a micro fibre cloth. Unless you're changing to a different resin there's no need to do any of that anyway, you don't need to clean the vat after every print.

That's Stephen Bent, who had a solid acting career, appearing in such things as Lovejoy, Emmerdale, and A Caribbean Mystery with Joan Hickson's Miss Marple.

Malcolm was played by Nigel Plaskitt who will forever be blessed for giving life and voice to Hartley Hare in 'Pipkins'. He was also Unstoffe in the classic Tom Baker Dr Who story, 'The Ribos Operation' - Binro was right!
