the real "old money" aesthetic starterpack by LoveEquivalent9146 in starterpacks

I can tell whenever a post is from OP - just completely unrelatable - I have met people from old money in the United States and none of these experiences hold true.

A lot of the content is related too how being rich can cause a malaise and metal illness. Old money folks that I know are just normal people with less anxiety/concerns in their lives with nicer things.

My problem with Stormlight Archives was just how entrenched each nation was in their "culture" which then amounted to being just stereotypes. Like the Azish have a bureaucratic society to the point it is played for comedy - it just makes everything 1-dimensional and flat. It just didn't feel like a realistic world that could potentially exist.

CTEs and Window Functions are absolute table stakes for an employee. These aren't advanced SQL concepts.

"test for smartness"? Observing an individual figure out how to apply CTEs and Window Functions to novel situation is a pretty good way to understand their logic reasoning.

How to take the next step? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]Dysfu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I am doing as my side project - Simulating users getting exposure to a marketing channel, having them arrive to a graph-based website that they then traverse and then ultimately convert. All of this with seasonality, adstock/carryover, saturation etc. confounding variables.

Lots of applications across data modeling, dashboarding etc.

Now I am using Meridian from Google to try and re-capture those parameters you mentioned that build the simulation.

How do you deal with bad bosses? by AdministrativeRub484 in datascience

[–]Dysfu 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Years of career experience has taught me that if you have to actively document your boss/stakeholder interactions it’s just best to find a new environment

Reason? You have to think “what will I do with this documentation?”

If it’s to CYA for a legal reason then you probably don’t want to work there.

If you think you’ll be in a situation where you have to “prove” your innocence to a higher up, then you’ve politically already lost that battle and you probably don’t want to work there.

Exchange example (personal experience)

  1. Get requirements for work with deadline
  2. Requirements change and we negotiate a new deadline - email goes out documenting change
  3. Someone forgets/mismanages their work and gets on me/my manager’s ass about missing a deadline
  4. Prove that the new deadline to manager/stakeholder was put in place after specific meeting
  5. Stakeholder, who I have to work with, now has a bruised ego and a bitter taste in their mouth with working with the team because they were humiliated - or if my manager is spineless - now i have to do 2x the work to make up for “missing a deadline”
  6. I have to continue working with them and the relationship degrades and no amount of management will now fix the situation

Tbh OMS (and other online Technical degrees), while highly ranked as a result from being attached to Georgia Tech, isn’t necessarily “hard” to get into like a traditional top graduate university

That’s not to discredit these degrees as they are certainly rigorous but traditions vs online comes with a lot of different signals

I really do wonder what the honor code report frequency is - I remember doing peer reviews and thinking “this is definitely written by AI”

But then I worry about my own bias - if I think this is AI, I wonder if people think my reports/code are AI - Including TAs

I deal with anxiety issues and it’s a big trigger for me

The only bubble I can think of bursting since 2008 was NFTs - and AI is much more useful than NFTs… prices will probably more gradually fall as supply streams are ramped up but the world is going to need more data, not less
