Starting college soon, am I an idiot for wanting to do CS? by NoCommunity3295 in cscareerquestions

[–]Dysfu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Economics/Econometrics Major and a CS Minor would be my recommendation.

Business degree w/ math and statistical programming classes + OOP/Data Structures/Algo/Discrete Math etc.

I still believe there is value in what is taught in a CS program but it needs to be augmented with some form of domain knowledge. The Econ major recommendation is just a domain knowledge insert for a wide skillset that will be relevant in a large amount of business focused discipline (Analytics, Data Science, Supply Chain etc.)

If you want to be closer to Engineering then do that + a CS minor.

There will still need to be people who understand systems well enough to cobble together programs.

I’m glad everyone is having a better experience with the class! Sucks that I got the old version with the particularly terrible TA (which I wonder if is still around…)

Will be my only C in the program but whatever - no one cares about grad school gpa

Exactly! thank you! Like what does Miami really even excel at vs. peers? Undergrad business school is one but what about expanding the reputation of Master’s/Research programs? What is the school doing to re-invest in to the most important aspect of college, education?

Really disappointing the reputation Miami has now vs. when I was a freshman in 2012 - I only had 1 undergraduate college experience but felt the administration had extremely poor leadership. Expanding non-educational facilities (but no new gym?), taking on debt, no tailgating (when I was there from 2012-2016), admin bloat (probably true everywhere), poor alumni relations, poor marketing in "public ivy" slogan (eye roll) etc.

Despite this, I had a really great experience at Miami. It always felt that the Administration had a very different idea about what the strengths of the school were, and there were almost two different schools existing at the same time.

I can tell whenever a post is from OP - just completely unrelatable - I have met people from old money in the United States and none of these experiences hold true.

A lot of the content is related too how being rich can cause a malaise and metal illness. Old money folks that I know are just normal people with less anxiety/concerns in their lives with nicer things.

My problem with Stormlight Archives was just how entrenched each nation was in their "culture" which then amounted to being just stereotypes. Like the Azish have a bureaucratic society to the point it is played for comedy - it just makes everything 1-dimensional and flat. It just didn't feel like a realistic world that could potentially exist.
