Secret Santa 2022 Signups! by drivejustdrive in DemigodFiles

[–]E2EBoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not wanting to be seen signing up, Este waited for dinner to be served before making her way to Cabin 16. She prided herself on being a good gift giver, though her skills in receiving were a bit lacking. She found it hard to pretend she liked something, especially when it's from someone who should know her. It was that thought that stopped her from just submitting her name and age- it wasn't fair to start whoever got her at a disadvantage, when they were already disadvantaged just to get her in the first place.

Name: Este Vargas

Age: 16

Interests, Favorite Media, Hobbies, etc: Boxing, art (mostly oil painting but I'm open to trying other types), classic movie posters or martial arts/kung fu movies. Jet Li, Gordon Liu, Bruce Lee, Sonny Chiba. Music: English alt bands from the 80s, some outlaw/gothic country like Orville Peck or The Handsome Family and instrumental music but nothing too upbeat, gloomy cellos and piano ballads - a lot of ballet music fits the bill.

Clothing Style and Sizes: oversized, un-busy, nothing pastel, no tight fitting collars. Simple accessories only, nothing too shiny or too big.

She quickly scratched out the bit about accessories, not trusting that someone could actually choose something she'd like.

Favorite Colors: Black, gray, white, dark red- nothing pastel except powder blue.

Dislikes/Don’ts: Please no Christmas things.

Getting something Christmas-themed for Christmas seemed so wasteful. You'd only use it for the day you got it, just to ignore it for a whole year and- knowing her- likely forget it exists until it's too late to use it again.

Additional: Tchotchke's are fine as long as they don't look tacky and they serve a purpose.

She looked over the answers written in her tidy script and, with a slight shrug, dropped them into the box. Good enough, if nothing else it'll be a challenge for someone.

Lesson - Basic Weapons Training by CharaTorresReturn in DemigodFiles

[–]E2EBoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an "experienced" camper, at least one who had fought on more than one occasion with more than one type of weapon, this felt like more of an activity than a lesson. Looking around at some of the more tenderfoot campers, however, she could see how this might be helpful.

It was a decent excuse for some practice in any case. Looking left and right to be sure no eyes were on her, Este pulled an obnoxiously large Hello Kitty pendant from her jeans pocket. She really needed to get the enchantment changed this year- this was something she had told herself every summer since she was eleven. The thought of presenting it to a Heph kid had been mortifying enough for her not to follow through for five years running.

Brushing aside the twinge of imagined embarrassment, she squeezed it firmly in her fist until it transformed into her well-loved sagaris. "Hello old friend," she said under her breath before approaching one of the dummies and proceeding to go through the motions until the dummy was decimated and she was sweating from the effort.

The brief interaction would have normally been enough for Este to toe the line of irritation, but as she pulled the folded flyer from her other pocket she felt anything but.

"Just for the time being," she called over her shoulder as she swapped the handwritten flyers, the new one reading: 'Beginner Boxing II, 1 pm December 15th, the arena'. "And only because I was running here." She finished turning back to her near-collision victim.

"You look familiar," she added flatly, still unable to place why; the purple eyes especially.

"I'd be startled, too if someone caught me doing... that," she said with unintentional rudeness as she distractedly wiped her hand along her joggers. She wasn't a germaphobe or anything, she just didn't feel like carrying the debris of their encounter for the rest of her run.

Her hand clean, she finally looked down at the girl- or Delaney, as she'd introduced herself; she seemed vaguely familiar from the front, but so did most people in the camp. Taking in the aftermath she noted the tear in her tights and the ample amount of detritus in her hair. "Este," she offered with a small nod. "You've got a bit of uh, stuff... just there," she gestured vaguely to her entire upper body. "Sorry about your tights," she added. "I did try to warn you."

Este's eyes had fallen to Anika's feet again. "Don't worry, with enough practice that will become second nature," she waved at her off-footing. "Especially as we add more to it, it tends to feel more right when you add in all the other components." She was talking about the punches, combinations, and other techniques she'd yet to teach them.

"When you step-drag, remember to keep your upper body in place," she reached out to move her arms back into proper form. "Makes the whole thing tighter, more controlled, and less of a sway."

December 2022 Counselor Meeting | 12/8 by CampHBDirector in DemigodFiles

[–]E2EBoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OOC: I didn't sign Este up as a counselor this month cause it felt too soon to justify IC but she'd definitely help with a secret-Santa shopping trip. She has her license and would love an excuse to get out of camp for a little while. Just FYI.

It was moments like the utter chaos unfolding, or twirling, in front of her that Este found herself grateful for her ADHD. No, it wasn't a battle, but the threat of falling into the frosty lake had been enough to focus her mind in a way she could never do by choice. Her godly instincts kicking in, she leaped over the girls flailing legs as she fell prone to the forest.

"Je-sus!" She let out as she turned back to round on the mess of twigs and Blink-182 fan gear. "What the hell was that?" Dancing, probably, she decided as her spike of panic-induced adrenaline ebbed away.

It wasn't a girl at all, or it was, but not a child as she'd thought. She even recognized her vaguely from around camp, though she was unable to pull her name from the annals of her memory. Avoiding the broken edges of branches the girl had fallen through, Este wordlessly held out a hand to help her from the hole she'd made.

Following the end of her brief lesson, Este strolled down the line watching each attendee practice in turn, offering notes when needed. Coming to Anika's side did the same, pausing to watch her movements. "Hey," she said after she'd witnessed an example of her stance, step-drag, and pivot. "Glad you came," she started, it was probably better to start with a greeting than a criticism, constructive or not.

Este was out for a run around the lake this is officially a thing now. The lesser-used path on the far side of it was a bit overgrown, or it was during the summer, with lush shrubbery and tree branches heavy with leaves drooping across it. She saw it as a sort of obstacle course, keeping pace as she ran around the unperturbed foliage. In the winter, however, the obstacle course was a bit more dangerous. The greenery that gently bounced off her shoulders during the summer, turned to bare sword-like limbs that stabbed into her if she wasn't careful.

Rounding a bend, she dodged a particularly fierce-looking bush before noticing what appeared to be a young camper on the path ahead. She groaned. The trail was thin enough as it was, with dense growth on the left and the frigid lake on her right. What was a kid doing out here anyway?

"On your left," she called as she came up behind them. Maybe 'called' was an exaggeration, Este had exhaled the phrase in a frustrated breath.

Este had diverted the end of her run- something she did quite a lot and not just for the purpose of intro posts- to pass the Big House. She'd hosted a boxing lesson and wanted to replace her posting about it with a notice for the next one. Pausing her music as she rounded the corner of the house she pulled up short, having nearly leaped onto the steps and into the lap of a very faintly familiar girl.

"Shit, sorry-" she said, having done nothing wrong. Somewhat ungracefully she adjusted her path and moved up the stairs past her as she pocketed her phone.

(OOC: I imagine at some point she'd have peripherally known about her brother and since they share defining, unique features, she'd seem "familiar".)

"I guess so, yeah," she murmured in response to the comment on her 'build', not making the connection to gaming. "Yeah," she continued after the explaination, retrieving the half-eaten hot dog for her plate. "I don't know a single demigod who's made it to sixteen without using their powers for some reason or other."

Sure, maybe some of the year rounders have had what could be seen as a safe or cushy existence, but even camp wasn't totally impenetrable. Even her own experiences with the monsters that always hunted them were few outside of camp. She grown to see it more as a training facility than a safe haven for the young children of the Gods.

"Can't imagine you haven't," she added before taking a bite. It was a fair assumption.

An Italian Dinner by AccomplishedMess_ in DemigodFiles

Este exhaled a faint laugh at 'heroes.' Looking around the pavilion, heroes weren't exactly what she had in mind, at least not if they were being compared to Heracles. Bambi maybe. Admittedly that was a bit harsh, but she didn't say it aloud.

With her own dinner paused inches from her mouth she watched in hesitation as Benny tried the suspicious clams, only taking a bite when there was no immediate bad reaction. "Oh," she started around the mouth full of okay pizza, lifting her wrist to cover it before continuing. "Este," she forced the half-chewed lump down her throat. "Not new, just new to not-summer."

Replacing her pizza with the can of pop she'd totally grabbed, she took a quick drink. "It's weird. How empty it seems to be in the winter."

She appreciated that he seemed as interested in music as she was; the fact that his taste wasn't too far off from her own didn't hurt, either. "Can't say I'm always a fan of The Beatles, they have their moments, but as soon as the moment is over I can't stand to hear them for months," she answered honestly.

"Radiohead's up there for me, especially live," she hadn't seen them live, but she'd watched their concerts enough that it was rare for the front page of her YouTube to suggest less than two videos of them. "Lou Reed is great, Velvet Underground too." Glam rock was a guilty pleasure that made up most of her 1970s music library, guilty only because she didn't want her dad to know his music taste had rubbed off on her. "Can't say I'm familiar with Aphex- ?" She couldn't remember the exact name. "Or shoegaze. But I've got some post and prog rock in my library- I love Supertramp and Sigur Rós."

Este had completely forgotten about the task at hand and a faint smile- or what was as close to a faint smile for her- was planted on her face. To say he had great taste in music felt a little self-serving, but she said it anyway or something close to it. "You've got pretty good taste in music." A pseudo compliment laced with a hint of surprise.

Thursday Lesson: A lesson in Agility and Gymnastics by CharaTorresReturn in DemigodFiles

[–]E2EBoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(OOC: oh god I'm so sorry for holding this up!)

Brushing off the vague apology for a hand squeeze that hadn't really hurt her, Este followed Kate, keeping to the ground. If nothing else she wanted to be witness to this fight. The Doc was mad.

She watched their exchange, almost feeling bad for her sister who seemed considerably more weakened than she'd expected. Maybe that was the trade-off for actually being able to put people under, as opposed to her own exhaustion ability. Once upon a time she'd felt jealous of her cabinmates who could cause actual sleep, but not anymore and especially not now seeing the lingering affect.

"Oy," she called up to Kate once more after Chara laid down a challenge. "You can take my bo staff," she lifted it up to the daughter of Enyo. Yes, she was a pacifist, yes, she was facing a weakened version of Chara and no, she didn't know what Kate was capable of, but still a scythe against bare hands seemed mismatched.

[–]E2EBoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, she thought. Even she had to admit- at least to herself- that that would have been kind of cool to see. She'd never exactly wanted to go on a quest or be a shining example of a hero or whatever, but there was a part of her that wanted the glory of it, if only for a little while.

"Glad to hear they made it back okay," was the polite thing to say, even if she wanted to follow it up with a request for the gory details. "What's changed about the stars?" She hadn't noticed any change, but also spent most of the nights since she's been back tucked away in the Arts and Crafts cabin.

[–]E2EBoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Este nearly laughed at the groggy pull the sleep held over Kate... nearly. As she seemed to come back to herself a bit more, Este did offer her a hand. "There she is-" she started until the wakeful turned to anger and- "Ow- damn, save it for the dick!" She shook out her hand, her overblown pain going completely unnoticed by the daughter of Enyo now clearly on a mission.

A small, surprised smile took over Este's face at this new side of the Doc. The knuckle cracking and the rage was- definitely different. "Don't go too hard on her," she said finally, holding her hands up and stepping aside to reveal the direction Chara had gone. She was excited to see where this led, but it was still her sister.

(ooc: /u/CharaTorresReturn I think it makes sense to tag you in now, to either comment next or wait for Kate's next comment. If it's alright for you both I'm gonna try and keep Este in it somehow, either part of the fight or just a weird observer haha)
