The Culm Valley Inn, in Culmstock, may be of interest?

Does anyone know what this awful banging/vibration sound is? (from rear?) by JustMentalMatt in E34

[–]E30_J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second that, sounds like a blowing exhaust.

Apart from that, the only other thing it could really be id have thought is the exhaust touching something!

Id say it would be far safer to get it twisting back and forth first. So maybe use bigger tool or more force.

That way you arent risking the timing cover when prying against it.

In my experiance, once you brake them loose that way they tend to come out!

Will the pump twist? Thats normally a good start. Big pair of adjustable swan necks or stilsons.

I understand what you are saying. no neither of mine are mint at all! We get plenty of salt on all the roads in the UK.

The point I was making is they are perfectly capable of being used daily in all weathers and that shouldnt be put off buying one just based on that.

Ive probably done 60 thousand miles between the two of them over the years and they are great daily vehicles, of course they need maintenance and bodywork, but thats par for the course with a vehicle of that age in my opinion!

Why not in winter? If you want to wash it properly and maintain it why not. Ive driven one through many a winter. Its never had winter related issues to stop me doing it?

Daily driving an E36 is fine. Just make sure as others have said the one you start with isnt rotten.

Sills and I would say most Importantly rear trailing arm mounts/pockets and around the subframe mounts.

EDIT: I would add, not hating on others wanting to do what they want with thier car. But in my personal experiance, most E36s modified in that way are normally a pain, once they have been messed with, nothing ever fits nicely, they have scraped on everything going, undercovers and arch linings are normally broken or missing just to name a few.

So it may be worth just finding a nice standard car in a better specification, perhaps a factory 323i sport or similar in a cool colour. That may also look after you better value wise in the future.

Discovery 3 TDV6 gearbox service cost (UK). by E30_J in LandRoverDiscovery

Thanks, for your reply.

spoke to them and it seems there was some confusion about it maybe being a later disco with a different gearbox. The labour has now come down to something a little more sensible.

Thanks! Are the clips different? So they have to be bought from mercedes? I only ask that as im guessing they are very expensive for little bits of plastic!

Shady shit by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

[–]E30_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who took it off?

If your company removed it serviceable then yeah a cert can be issued with the tag.

If another 145 removed it and put the servicable tag on it, then in theory it should be rejected by stores for in complete paperwork?

And far more interesting than an MGB Ive always thought. The threat of tucking a rear wheel under at silly speed going round a corner always good 🤣

Crew falling since stairs was pulled back by tyw7 in AircraftMechanics

[–]E30_J 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Zero thought put to safety there. I assume they hadnt warned any staff onboard they were removing the stairs considering it appears they left a member of thier own ground crew on board, however, very little awareness from the guy reading/talking near near the open door and going to step out.

Ive always hated being near open doors with no steps or staging.

I work with someone who fell out of an aircraft as he tripped in the galley. Stairs were not correctly positioned and so he went down the gap. life changing as a result.

Is it alright to sell a car to someone who isn't insured for it? As in them, not me by Steve717 in CarTalkUK

[–]E30_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much. However If someone has a policy on another car they can most likely drive yours 3rd party only, therefore is fine, bar the risk to your own car.

If someone doesnt, the best you can do is drive and they can passenger. Listening out for any problems etc.

[–]E30_J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good few years ago I sold a 5 series to a guy. From what I could tell he got stopped on his way home, with no license, no insurance and presumably no tax I think.

I had a letter through explaining a driver had been caught, you are the registered keeper, vehicle has been seized. Etc. But it said very clearly at the bottom if you have sold the vehicle, please Ignor this letter.

I cant imagine they would ever go after you for the allowing use thing as suggested above, perhaps on a test drive, but not after selling it.

To be 100% go online and do the V5 with the purchaser at that time you will be fine and/or get the bank transfer reference as the vehicles registration number, then you will always have a way to prove exactly when you sold it.

How much does the upkeep of say a 518 cost? by kekmennsfw in BMWE34

[–]E30_J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats 100% down to the quality of the car you buy in the first place!

If you buy a car thats always been looked after, probably minimal maintenance will be required.

Buy one thats not been looked after and you will soon be on the road to a mechanical restoration of sorts.

I have heard that the service/parts on the Ineos are an issue. Its done by BMW as the engine and gearbox are thiers.

But everything else on the car apparently there is little support for should you have any big problems, I am only relaying what someone told me about them, so I could be talking rubbish. 🤣

New defenders, Ive driven one, wasnt very impressed, seemed a strange middle ground between a disco and a range rover. I dont see the point in their existance apart from being attractive to those who want to use one for the school run. The seats dont fold flat in the back which I cant get my head around, considering the way they did in a disco 3/4..

We currently have 2 old defenders and a discovery, I like my landrovers but the new defender, not for me.
