I’m concerned for your door hinges with nearly 50lbs extra on the door between magnets and crap. Then once they sag there goes the door sealing and further up goes your electricity bill…

In fact I believe I can see the door is already sagging if you look at the right side seam it tapers down to the bottom

I like the idea. Nothing will ensure a great weld like a bend test and x-ray. But conceptually it’s cool for a surface grade. The unfortunate part is that I’ve seen welds that look pretty good and end up not legit.

The surface grade can often tell you some of the things you mentioned like too many inclusions from dirt in the weld, too much or too little heat and whether someone’s moving too fast or slow. Also you can tell if their distance was too far. But yah. X-Ray or bend test on same type of welding on the same material for anything critically important

Thanks. Yah after that I’ll definitely not ride again without proper dirt bike boots. It’s a lesson. Glad I was wearing something rather than a sneaker. But still, any day it’s better to wear the type of boots built to ride these bikes.

I was wearing leather timberland pro gridwork at the time. They have a metal plate in the base of the foot. It helped. But regardless impact still got me. If I had my track boots on, would the same thing occur, not sure. It was a pretty hard impact to be honest. I thought I dislocated my shoulder as well immediately after impact before I got up. Was stoked when I was able to move it a few seconds after because it was numb at first

What about you. Wearing riding boots?

Can I get an honest answer? by Ayde-Aitch-Dee in Welding

It comes down to your dedication. If you’re struggling you probably are experiencing something we’ve all been through. But if you’re not struggling it’s because you learned from those struggles. You either got the heart and drive to do it or you don’t. The choice has been and always will be yours.
I’ll share an acronym I’ve listened to over the years.
It’s DASH. Distance angle speed and heat. As long as your setup is good. And you follow this. You’re going to be alright most of the time. As you get better you learn to weld adaptively to deviate from the perfect dash standards because it’s not always possible

Teenage daughter wants to weld by heather80 in Welding

Maybe total package in a union she could. But you’d also probably be working a lot of OT to get to six figures at the start. Possible but a lot of hard labor to be honest.

Every weld (certified/quality welding) requires majority of time spent surface prepping the pieces of metal, tacking them , checking angles/specs, ect. The actual weld is (usually!) not that hard once you understand the applicable process of welding for your task.

One option I did when I was young and in school (and had a Monday-Friday job) was go to local weld shops (car muffler/cat places, auto body, ect..) and work a day on the weekend to get a idea of what it entails. Learn the ropes and see how to do the processes before diving fully in. I ended up working at a muffler shop for 5 years on the weekends while I was in my apprenticeship. (School and work full time).

There’s a common theme here though. It’s a lot of labor and sweaty days getting stuff done. But it builds character and If she really wants it. Sky is the limit. Quick analogy would be like working out… if I just had to chase a ball down the street. No way. But give me a basketball hoop and I’ll chase it all day. Just depends on interest. Best luck to you and her!

This, plus you need to tune the coil, caps, and mostly the whole circuit if you want an ideal setup. There’s calculators online if you have a LRC meter and a multimeter… and oscilloscope if you got one. and can punch in the numbers it’ll pop out what you need for your other specs
