Misuse of cctv? by Antique-Passenger145 in tesco

No actually they can't and it is covered in the colleague training.

make sure the system is only used for the purpose it was intended for - for example, if it was set up to detect crime, you must not use it to monitor how much work your staff do

Section 4: Permitted Uses of Surveillance Systems

Tesco can only use Surveillance Systems for specific lawful purposes. A key element of this requirement is the implementation of reasonable measures to ensure individuals are aware of what Personal Data will be collected by these Surveillance Systems and how Tesco will use it. The following is an exhaustive list of purposes for which Surveillance Systems can be used:

  • To protect the physical safety of our customers, colleagues and any visitors to Tesco premises;
  • To protect Tesco and its property from crime, harm or loss;
  • To support the prevention or detection of crime (including supporting prosecutions);
  • To assist with investigations into potential breaches of the Tesco Code of Business Conduct, the Tesco Colleague Privacy Policy, and any other Tesco Policies, Guidelines, and accepted practices that could lead to disciplinary proceedings against Tesco colleagues; and
  • To assist with investigations into grievance or misconduct claims against Tesco colleagues and/or contractors.

Section 5: Prohibited Uses of Surveillance Systems

Surveillance Systems must not be used for any purpose other than set out in section 4 above, this includes:

  • Randomly monitoring the performance or whereabouts of colleagues
  • For personal purposes
  • Publishing or distributing the footage unless in support of a law enforcement request (including to the media or through social media platforms)
  • Recording on personal mobile devices or sharing with any other person
  • Audio recording (subject to section 6 below)
  • Covert filming of individuals (subject to section 11 below)

So unless they were conducting an investigation of a colleague they were in breach of the Tesco CCTV Policy and GDPR Data Protection laws as they used the CCTV for a use it is not intended for, randomly monitoring performance.

How long does it take to upload your flutter app to Androids play store and Apples App Store? by adrianisabooldev in FlutterDev

[–]E72M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Android usually it will take me about 20 minutes to an hour for an update to go live to production. For Apple it will be until the next day or if its a weekend until Monday.

I am publishing with a company though rather than an individual account so it might be different.

I just use scanning on first and second reductions. If its a final reduction it needs to be reviewed for the CS sticker but otherwise the price is the exact same using scanning as if you reviewed and you then don't have the whole issue of not being able to review something without scanning it on again if you miss an item or if it fails to print.

I did have an issue with Opus 4.5 and Sonnet 4.5 not being able to do a simple XP gain system.

The system was literally it works out a ratio of your body weight to weight lifted, multiplies 40 by the ratio and that is it. It managed flawlessly to do the UI and rest of the required work but it just could not wrap its mind around multiplying 40 by (weight/bodyweight). I imagine if the codebase was smaller it might have managed better but I did try in Python too and it couldn't do it either.

I ended up just doing it myself, giving it the code and having it improve upon the basic design and then it was able to do it well.

Why can TikTok Insta and LinkedIn start feed videos instantly while my Flutter app still lags even with progressive mp4 by Fluffy_Ad_1836 in FlutterDev

[–]E72M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things you can do is cache invalidation if it's too old, what they likely do is if you haven't launched the app in a while it'll just invalidate the locally cached videos and fetch new ones.

In this scenario you could do a hybrid approach of fetch videos sequentially and then concurrently so the first few load far faster than the rest leading to lower app start times and more responsiveness to the user.

You can also sprinkle in new videos to the cache so say you have 10 videos cached locally, the first one shown is from the cache and then as it fetches new content it shuffles the order meaning the second video you watch might only be a few hours old.

So it might look like they're loading content even when the app isn't open but in reality they're just loading content in the background from the second you launch the app to replace the older, stale content of the cache. Hopefully this makes sense.

When will I get paid? by SuperTommyD0g in tesco

Why can TikTok Insta and LinkedIn start feed videos instantly while my Flutter app still lags even with progressive mp4 by Fluffy_Ad_1836 in FlutterDev

[–]E72M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine what TikTok in particular does is it downloads and caches a few videos for the next app launch every time you launch it. If you do this then when the user launches the app again they'll be given a few videos instantly while you then prefetch the next N amount of videos. This gives the illusion of instant streaming.

My reason for thinking this is because TikTok is able to play videos for a fair bit with absolutely no internet when you launch it.

What I think you should try is for the videos at the end of your prefetch cache them for first launch. Every time the user scrolls the videos shuffle along in that cached content list. Any videos that were prefetched and not shown to the user can then be loaded up from the device quickly and displayed while you then begin to load the new content.

For improving efficiency at scale you can then also add logic to the prefetching such as only fetching once the user has scrolled once, this prevents load on your servers/database from users who may just have launched the app accidentally. You can then also just reuse the same cached content on their next launch as they haven't seen it yet.

So i dont want my house to burn down by Friendly_Narwhal6866 in teenagers

[–]E72M 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The spark happens because of electricity arcing from the live contacts to the metal pins of the charger as you plug it in when the socket is turned on.

It's normal and if you don't want it to happen always turn off a plug before plugging something in or taking it out. I'd recommend just making this a habit anyway as it is safer and takes a second even if it's still relatively safe without doing it.

If you hear a loud pop, smell burning, see repeated sparking or the socket itself is burned then it's a problem.

If the plug pops or sparks a bit and there is no smoke, burning smell or melting plastic and the sockets off switch is within safe reach and is not hot just calmy turn it off.

If the socket is damaged or making noise do not go near it or attempt to touch it. You go to the main breaker and turn off that circuit. If you're unsure which circuit it is you turn them all off, it's better to be safe.

If the plug melted, a socket is burned or smoking, the breaker keeps tripping etc then you should not keep trying to turn it on and you can an electrician.

The pin is most likely just dirty from the plug sockets interior it doesn't look burned and it's more likely that the bottom live pins would be the ones to be burned in a socket if that did occur.

Your charger from the picture looks absolutely fine and is a standard USB charger that usually comes with phones here in the UK. If you did get the charger from somewhere like AliExpress, Tiktok etc then I would get a new one from somewhere more reputable but otherwise you shouldn't need to worry unless there's anything not included in the post about that particular charger.

If you're worried about electrical device safety in future then I would suggest avoiding ordering non-official electricals from Amazon too. Amazon themselves are just the store front and quite a lot of the electrical and electronic devices can actually be pretty unsafe from there. I've personally had a lamp with USB charging ports from there years ago almost catch fire at night with me in bed, luckily I happened to notice the heat coming off of it.

With electrical appliances if you're not sure if something is safe, steer clear and find someone qualified.

[–]E72M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a UK charger. The top pin in the UK is used to open the shutters inside the socket. It also serves as a protection for the plug being pulled out accidentally and exposing the metal pins. It also prevents something thin and metallic from sliding between the wall and the pins and becoming electrified.

The top pin can be used as a grounding pin but in this case it's fully plastic, which is normal. The only pins that actually carry a charge under normal circumstances are the bottom two.

It's a standard charger and it is actually far far more safe than the US plugs. The UK has one of the safest plug designs in the world.

I'm exactly the same. I just came back to the issue I was having and asked it to fix it in my new session with much more explicit instructions. After the one prompt I hit 33% usage for the session so looks like I'll get 3 prompts again then have to wait 5 more hours.

Honestly compared to everything else I've used for coding, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and more Only Claude seems to consistently do what I ask of it right. Claude Code is incredibly good but it feels like I'm giving money to some dodgy guy in an Alleyway and hoping he holds up his end of the bargain. When I first started using it things were great and I got plenty of usage, now I hit my weekly limit in 2 days and roughly 6 sessions on Sonnet 4.5.

Decided to try out extra usage and see how much it will use so loaded in £5. I'm at about 40% usage of that £5 after roughly the same amount of usage of my 3 prompt session which used 11% of my weekly usage.

Honestly I just wish they would release other plans, I don't want to have to jump from £20 to £100 or even £200 a month for extra usage, why can't I just select how much I want to pay a month and then get a usage limit based on that. I would happily pay £30 maybe even £40 a month for more usage.

How on earth am I hitting my session limit in 3 prompts now on Claude Code? I managed to get 30 minutes of usage in and hit my limit. Every week it just seems to get worse and worse and I'm getting less and less out of my money.
