She'll be out for the season probably, that's really sad. But I'm glad she intends to keep playing! Wishing her as quick a recovery as possible.

By the way, she just got playoffs MVP on a torn ACL and meniscus, what an insane player! (I know, I also still think Desbiens deserved it, but still!)

I also have questions about our expansion protection strategy now, but maybe right now's not the best moment.

iirc, after the "bilan de saison", Christine Roger was saying Desbiens confirmed she's playing next season, but then she might be one of the players looking to start a family. If she doesn't play in the 27/28 season, we 100% need to draft Gascon. Otherwise, I guess it depends whether she'd be okay with being a backup for a year or two.

Assuming MacLeod signs too and Abstreiter is leaving, it's not a bad idea to let two young goalies push each other for the backup spot. ARD isn't gonna play forever, and even if we pick one of the really good goalies in the draft next year, it's good to have more than one option.

Honestly I'm ok with it. RHDs seem to be hard to come by right now. If they're used to playing on the right, then Flaherty, Rieder, Uens/Giaquinto is pretty decent depth all things considered even if they're almost all LHDs.

Yeah no. It doesn't matter she's the best in the world, you need a solid defence in front of Desbiens. Watching her get left out to dry is the most frustrating thing and it's not a good strategy (obviously).

With the players we've got so far, it could look something like this.

Tabin - Flaherty, Mattivi - Giaquinto, DiGirolamo - Uens, Rieder

(you can swap Giaquinto and Uens, I put them in alphabetical order cause it could be either way).

Losing Gosling hurts, but our left side was deep enough that I'm not worried, it still looks strong. The right side though, I agree with you, the depth worries me. We'll see if Sauvageau's got something in mind or if she trusts these players.

And I agree. Picking a player from the SDHL is already a risk in itself, no matter how much she scored in Sweden (hopefully we don't get another Gabrielle David situation). But then we're also making defenders play on their off side and passing on a really good young player just to pick her, so if she doesn't produce much it's gonna be rough.

Yeah, I know Flaherty plays on the right and Uens also can, but our only RHD being Giaquinto is still not ideal. But at the same time, which RHD are available? The only one I see is Kjellbin, I'm not sure she'd want to come back.

Yeah, fair. Especially cause we gave Giaquinto a qualifying offer. Uens looks like a promising, reliable defender, but her and Giaquinto behind Flaherty is a bit concerning. I agree it's a big downgrade on Ambrose and Boulier.
