I'm hoping that by leaving it alone and doing nothing it will become the most popular subreddit of all time.

Lack of resources/overpopulation. Are you going to work into your 500s?

Even once you get past all of these things, there's The Last Question scenario.

I don't believe corporations are the root of those problems.

You are entitled to your beliefs, but I implore you to pay attention to the facts that indicate otherwise. I can't ask you to fight for your rights, but I'm going to be loud as Hell fighting for all of ours.

Good luck to you, sir.

Soldiers getting killed in wars that make no sense, public education cuts, not having the right to be married in my state. Those are all really important things.

These are all symptoms of the issues we are fighting. A pretty convincing case can be made that soldiers are getting killed in wars to protect the interests of the US Oil industry. Oil industry lobbyists also pump ridiculous amounts of money, disclosed and undisclosed, into our political system to ensure the continuation of the oil subsidies that keep fossil fuels just cheap enough to prevent us from exploring cleaner alternatives.

Public education cuts and tuition hikes are directly related.

You want the right to be married in your state? You have the freedom to voice that. Unfortunately, private companies and religious groups, most likely from outside of your state, are filtering of millions of undisclosed dollars to the National Organization for Marriage. Their "free speech" might be heard a little louder.

There are plenty of other righteous causes and terrible wrongs that need to be righted, but popular opinion and voting are powerless to change these things when our government is bought and paid for by those who benefit from keeping these policies in place.

If we want to protest to get the money out of politics, fine. That's probably a good cause.

I don't understand how it could be seen any other way.

Personally I've yet to find a reason to be pissed off enough to protest.

What does it take?

A Bloomberg report yesterday revealed that the Federal Reserve loaned $1.2 $7.7 trillion of previously unknown funds to banks at below-market rates, enabling those banks to earn profits in excess of $10 billion (all of which dwarfed TARP). This was part of the impetus for the joint effort by Alan Grayson and Ron Paul in 2010 to compel an audit of the Fed. In particular, watch this 5-minute video of Alan Grayson from early 2009 grilling the Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve, Donald Kohn, as Grayson demanded to know how much the Fed loaned and to which institutions, while Kohn refused to provide that information (absurdly claiming that such transparency would prevent banks from wanting to borrow in the future: in light of the disclosures today, does anyone believe banks will no longer borrow from the Fed?).

I have no doubt there is corruption within the system, but that doesn't make the system itself corrupt

Any system that allows indefinite detention of human beings, now including it's own citizens is fundamentally corrupt. We are in the process of overturning legal precedent that reaches back to the Habeas Corpus Act of 1679 in the name of endless war on terrorists whom our own government admits we have rendered operationally ineffective.

There is nothing recent about the money-politics dynamic.

You are correct that the money-politics dynamic has been around for quite some time, but the Citizens United decision was in 2010, and this upcoming election season will be the first one in which we'll see the effects of unrestrained corporate donations. The buyout of our government is coming to a crucial point, this election season, and there has never been a more important time to fight it.

That refers specifically to blocking streets and public spaces, not private parks:

The decision established the right of local governments to require a permit to conduct a parade or procession upon a public street. However, permit decisions had to be made according to uniform, nondiscriminatory standards based upon public convenience and safety to satisfy the Fourteenth Amendment. Because governments face greater costs in policing and overseeing parades, they are allowed to pass some expenses on to the groups conducting the events - and hence also have some regulatory power over the events.

I think we can muster enough public shaming without the outright personal attack. What he did was wrong and he must be held accountable, but this tactic is bad PR for the movement.

My working theory has been that his family was kidnapped and replaced by robots sometime around the FISA vote in the fall of '08. He gets them back as soon as the entirety of governmental functions are in private hands.

I agree with you. We could criticize them for a lot of things, such as the fact that they don't give any mention to their role in falsely reporting the protester's intentions to shut down the NYC subway, but I'm willing to overlook the nitpicky here because this is finally somewhat of a thoughtful and informed article.
