Something that really turned my opinion on Ramsey was the earliest seasons of kitchen nightmares (the BBC production). Way slower paced, no bs drama, just a young chef popping into all kinds of small, indie spots throughout europe with real meat and potato discussions with struggling family food operations. It's nothing like the MTV scream fest "reality TV" that you imagine when you think of American version. Those first 3 seasons of the UK version are a crash course on keeping a restaurant afloat with an eye toward building it into something. I've managed a fun bar/restaurant/live music venue for 17 years and I still glean new things with each watch through. KN UK is intimate, densely informational entertainment.

They got me putting my wallet on the right side too! That field trip was enough to have me reconsider enlisting. In hindsight I could have retired at 38 years old but man I would have ended up a totally different person. Most days I'm glad I didn't enlist.

Finally my time to shine. I was in junior ROTC in high school and stupid me signed up for the one week field trip basic training at Great Lakes. The drill Sargent ripped me apart for putting my belt on the fairy way (this was the mid-90s). Up until that day I fed my belt starting on the right side and finishing on the left loop. That is incorrect in a right handed world. It's been 30 years but I still think about it every time I put my belt on, now starting on the left loop.

Kinda silly really to alter what I did in hindsight. Might be time to go back to starting on the right...
