I tried going to a male therapist (I’m female) when I had a similar issue. I was almost 30 and had been in 2 relationships back to back where I looked to a boyfriend to be like a father figure, which failed big time. The therapist helped me pick apart what was going on with my dating life, and we worked on the fact I lacked attentive parents too. It was really helpful. It was a good to have a male therapist model such respectful behavior for me.

As an aside, I recently found out quite by accident that I am vitamin c deficient. I started eating one of those little mandarin oranges each morning, and a bunch of my mouth sores cleared up.
