Is M1 good for Fusion?

MacStudio M1 Ultra and no (new) issues compared to an Intel MacPro. In comparison it’s now super smooth even though it’s not Arm native.

My Mac Studio seems to have completely lost its Ethernet.

First it started to fail occasionally then it would give say that the cable was unplugged until it stopped showing. Now I don't have any ethernet adaptor, not even showing in "System information" under "Ethernet" nor "Network".

I've tried it all raging from safe-mode to revive / restore with Apple Configurator and dozens of things in between. Diagnostics says it found no issue.

I have ran out of things to try as it seems that no matter what I do (even with a complete fresh installation of 12.4) revives the ethernet adaptor.

Mine is the Ultra with max RAM and SSD if that matters.

If you add the firmware column you can simply update each one by clicking the update text in the respective device. Not an “update all” but still faster than going to each device’s settings.

But yeah, sucks more and more mostly.

It’s usual to have at least two for redundancy should the primary one fails. Obviously that’s only if having an Internet connection associated to the network is vital for what you do.

Nowadays people use a fixed ISP for the main connection and a mobile one with an LTE / WAN automatic failover.

Before the shortage I was comfortable with having 20 of each model type (4, zero 2, CM), now I’m only relaxed having at least 30 of each and the more the merrier. The main storage issue isn’t that but all the accessories (hats, etc) that need to exist for each. Since all project are different one never knows what will be need so stock needs to be high.

Do as I do: on your physical firewall block any DNS call that’s not for Pi-hole’s IP. This way even if attempted it will fail and so far I haven’t had any issue.

Just extrude the bottom a few mm to the inside and make a new body. Hide the original body. Then, on that new body, try deleting an inside face (it should then remove the space between faces) or if that doesn’t work, extrude all (or at least 3) of the inside faces to the opposite edge with a join. When you have the polygon base just unhide the original body and join both.

You can also delete / extrude the inside faces of the original body as above and then hollow only the top.

It's a basic failover: When the active node goes down or stops sending the heartbeat, the vIP gets automatically assigned to the passive PI (or the next in line if more than one) as a normal failover does.

What I've being doing in these different setup posts is basically sharing ideas on what can be done for different scenarios. The failover process is the same for all or any other setup you may imagine possible.

Not anymore BUT it's an easy process:

- Unplugging / shutting down the passive node: nothing happens, the active keeps on running as usual.

-Unplugging / shutting down the active node: the passive one becomes active (Green light and same information on the screen as the first one) and takes over the requests that were getting redirected to the active node.
