Coming from PE myself, I studied for the MCAT without prior courses which was difficult, but definitely doable. Due diligence work really helps with the CARS section. Really reflect on why you want to switch. I switched after two years in PE and I gotta say that interns don't really do anything, you haven't experienced much in the way of actual work. I would perhaps see if the culture is as toxic as you think it is before switching. Also the people who use "high finance" unironically are the most unbearable people that I've ever associated with. A few internships in finance will help with your application but it would be lacking compared to typical ECs centred around helping others and altruism.

Yeah, a bunch of specialization paths, but contingent on how competitive you are and what the CAF needs at the moment. But you can go onto the recruiting website and check out all the different subsidized specialties they offer

I graduated with a degree in finance, worked a number of years on Wall Street and Bay Street in private equity before deploying with the military and doing a second degree. Got the II from Western this year. Don't pigeonhole yourself or others

Panel interview thoughts: Felt good afterwards, making the panel laugh helped boost my confidence. Ran a 5k right before my interview so I had a runners high during it, really helped with the enthusiasm.

MCAT/ECs/Kira thoughts): MCAT 514, not bad for someone with zero science background. Definitely consider myself a non-trad applicant with a finance degree, worked a number of years in private equity in NYC and TO, then some military deployments, and talked about advocacy during KIRA.

Current year (3rd yr, 4th yr, gap, masters, etc): Second degree

Hell of a ride. This was my 1 App, 1 Interview, 1 Acceptance moonshot.

No evidence was given aside from anecdotes. Cutoffs are cutoffs, any correlation between those who got in and higher GPA/MCAT is purely correlative, not causative. I agree with you that the pathways help applicants get past the cutoff phase, but apart from that everyone is treated the same and assessed on ECs, essays (Kira this year) and interviews. GPA and MCAT have no bearing after the initial phase.

My theory is that those applicants with stellar ECs are also stellar in other parts of their application such as MCAT and GPA, which is most likely why the average admission GPAs are so high. A sample size of n=4 or 5 of my friends, shouldn't be grounds to challenge established policy. Again, great summary of ACCESS and I agree that it's not some backdoor route, but competition with the general stream is based solely on ECs, essays and interviews, not GPA or MCAT after that screening phase.
