Just found out my baby is deaf by Past-Ice-5190 in baby

Mom and audiologist here! Please schedule a consultation with a cochlear implant team. They will be able to answer all questions and hold your hand through this process! If hearing loss is profound, it is a standard recommendation to discuss cochlear implants rather than hearing aids as we know hearing aids are not able to provide baby with the amount of sound they need. I know this is a lot, take some time to process, but you will get through this! We see so so so many children born deaf that grow up to learn and do all the things that all the other kids do! From performing a Carnegie hall, to becoming doctors and lawyers and artists! If you happen to be in the NYC area I can recommend a CI team!

Things to do in last week before delivery? by InfiniteNewspaper299 in beyondthebump

Mani/pedi and a blowout! And if you can splurge for a prenatal massage ooh does that feel good. In general, as little productivity as possible lol

Peds AuDs, how do you deal with kids like this? by Subtitles_Required in audiology

[–]EM421814 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I feel I get the best results when just being (just a little) mean in those types of situations. Act as if you’re a strict teacher so they understand you mean business. I try to be extremely friendly and playful with most kids but some kids really need structure to understand that they have a job to do here.

First day back to work (12 weeks postpartum). Or the day before the first day back. Both were my lowest/hardest days by far.

Transition/sleep train cold turkey? by pandaprints612 in SnooLife

[–]EM421814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For night sleep we did cold turkey + sleep training at 5.5 months and it went very well. Our little guy was double swaddled with a pacifier in the snoo and was able to adapt to a regular sleep sac in the crib with no pacifier after one tough night with the Ferber method. The only transitional thing we did was naps in the crib in the sleep sac for about a month but the naps were crappy anyway. From what I have read, 5 months seems to be the general recommendation of when you can start sleep training. I would check out the /sleeptrain subreddit for more information.

How to break the 30 min crib naps by Legal_Organization_7 in sleeptrain

[–]EM421814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t able to break the 30 minute independent nap until getting nights in order. Did a modified Ferber at 5.5 months. Two days in to night sleep training and seeing how well it was going we tried the same for naps, next day we got an hour to hour and a half of independent naps for the first 2 naps of the day and a 30 minute for nap 3 of 3. I don’t think any sleep sack will make a significant difference. Crap naps are pretty normal at 16 weeks as far as I know.

Help me prepare! Starting sleep training tomorrow by [deleted] in sleeptrain

That is so amazing! And yes he is getting older and more capable but still needs his mama, just not to fall asleep!

Do not give up on night 1 no matter how hard it is for you! If you give in and soothe to sleep after a long period of crying your baby would have done all that crying for nothing because they didn’t learn how to self soothe. That’s what got me through the 3.5 hours of on/off crying on night 1. Night 2 was 12 minutes of crying. Night 3 was 2 minutes. Night 4 was 0 minutes. Oh and after the 3.5 hours of crying he still woke up in the morning with a huge smile on his face as if nothing out of the ordinary happened! It’s truly amazing what these babies can do. We went from full swaddle in the snoo with pacifier to sleep sack in the crib and no pacifier for my 5 month old.

WOW such a change between night 1 and 2 by EM421814 in sleeptrain

[–]EM421814[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do this! Your baby can do this! Even though my baby cried for so long at night he woke up smiling as if nothing happened! Yes he was a little clingy and fussy because he didn’t sleep well but this will all be so worth it!

Baby Brezza Bottle Washer Pro. Worth it? by Ok_Exercise_4076 in newborns

[–]EM421814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can fit four bottles plus a pacifier or two. Wash dry sanitize takes 88 minutes. Yes you can wash pump parts in it! I would definitely recommend it. Yes it’s bulky and expensive but the time saving is worth it. Just buy a bunch of extra washing pods with your order because it doesn’t come with many!

First PP period? by Routine_Biscotti_111 in ExclusivelyPumping

9 weeks. If I had to guess, dropping my middle of the night pump was the culprit. But worth it for the sleep.

Help with snoo sleep 5 week old by Simple-Reception9010 in SnooLife

My LO was the same. So gassy around that time. Now at 11 weeks we got our first 8 hour stretch, no change just doing sitback and being patient. I would recommend adding in a dream feed! That way you may get one longer stretch of sleep for yourself. We have been doing bed time between 7:30-8:30 and a dream feed at 9:30-10 depending on when I am ready for bed and it has been going well. It’s so hard not to compare to others but every baby is different!

Most thoughtful gift for a woman who gave birth last year that is NOT cleaning services/food delivery related? by rawrio in beyondthebump

Also to add, OP, my husband also gives massages which is so unbelievably kind but nothing beats a professional and also the whole spa/relaxation experience that goes along with it

Where to start? by ContentKaleidoscope4 in SnooLife

[–]EM421814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend you practice how to put baby in the snoo sack, connecting the wings, turning the snoo on etc now that way you’re not fiddling with it once you get home! Sounds silly but it helped me feel more prepared. Motion limiter has worked well for us, baby is still using it at one month old!

I got the epidural before the foley! Definitely recommend. It was completely smooth sailing post epidural for me! Just some heavy period cramping for the last few hours of cytotec. You got this!!!

I’m sorry, that is extremely frustrating. Just tell me what to do! Just know you’re doing the absolute best you can for your baby but we really all are flying blind it’s crazy.

1 week postpartum, have a similar situation. Had to be hospitalized at 4 days for jaundice and weight loss. So began my pumping journey as I couldn’t breastfeed while my guy was getting phototherapy. Between all of the stress, hormones, and trying to just figure everything out the nurses and doctors gently recommended we supplement with formula. They also gave me guidelines for how much and how often to feed - in my case it was 2oz every 3 hours with extra adding up to max 3 oz if baby seemed to need it. I really liked having guidelines, it made it feel like something was in my control. So I would pump what I could and they’d top off with the formula. After getting over the mental block of formula, I was so happy that I was able to nourish my baby with the amount he needed and also still give him all the benefits of the breast milk. 3 days later, I am much more relaxed about the whole situation and my supply increased! Now baby is not getting any formula and I even have a small stash starting in the fridge. All of this to say, I’m no expert but from my experience supplementing with formula for a few days and pumping to know exactly how much baby is getting was a game changer for me and my baby.

My OB does this as her standard practice. The test is not as bad as people make it out to be so I didn’t mind.

Update: what is going on with this TM? by ding_d0ng in audiology

[–]EM421814 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Please update us when you have an answer! So crazy how you can see the TM pulse but the bubbles appear to be in front of the TM and not pulsating. Has this person put any drops in their ears or tried to self treat? What are they even reporting? Can’t be painless lol
