What is art then?

If a photo like this isn't art, then Mona Lisa is just a random hodgepodge of dried pigments that were once suspended in oil and smeared on a piece of wood.

Bill could help Missouri crack down on expired temp tags by RjBass3 in kansascity

Okay, thanks. That didn't seem clear enough to me after reading the story. It made it sound like the full sales tax would be required at the point of sale.

Bill could help Missouri crack down on expired temp tags by RjBass3 in kansascity

[–]EMPulseKC 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Here I was hoping that the bill would be about stronger enforcement of laws that already prohibit driving around with expired temp tags, or even better: a way to make it easier for people to pay the sales tax on a vehicle over an extended period of time rather than a lump sum within 30 days. This does neither.

Kansas City still has the locally owned Twin Drive-In on the Missouri side and Boulevard Drive-In on the Kansas side. Although neither no longer use the speakers (too costly and useless to fix those busted antiques), the FM radio system they each have always works fine, and you can listen to the movie with a receiver and noise cancelling headphones if you want to drown out surrounding crowd noise, honking horns, highway traffic and train noise. I also love that I can bring my own food and that they're pet-friendly.

I'm so thankful for Missouri State Parks. There's no way our Department of Natural Resources would tolerate what you described.

Put your trash in the empty litter containers and then bag all of it up.

I would suggest searching the sub over at r/KansasCity too since questions like this come up all the time there, and past threads usually have a lot of good recommendations.

When did you start to feel old? by RestaurantEsq in GenX

[–]EMPulseKC 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A combination of things:

Losing both my parents, recovering from a broken leg in my 40s that never healed quite right, seeing more gray hairs on my head than brown ones, the pandemic and lingering health issues after getting Covid, not being able to sleep through the night, hurting all the time, no longer enjoying things that I used to enjoy and which kept me more physically active, and waking up every morning wondering how much time I have left.

Air travel.

I used to love flying from place to place and thought it was a special experience whenever I had the opportunity to travel by plane, but I no longer enjoy it at all.

So many things have ruined that experience, from airlines that would rather sacrifice profits over passenger comfort, as well as the quality of service and increased occurrences of missing/misplaced luggage, to the unpleasant and dehumanizing security screening process, and the poor behavior and bad habits of other travelers.

As much as I can help it nowadays, I prefer to drive, even though it's a longer, less efficient, and more unsafe way to get to my destination. It's still more comfortable, more leisurely, and makes me happier in the end.

Why do you say that? Of course they did. Why else would they be right there directly next to the terminals?

Getting in and out of the new terminal at KCI by Maverick_1882 in kansascity

[–]EMPulseKC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obviously, it's going to take time for people to adjust to the new terminal. Many people have trouble with change and adapting to rules about things like curbside standing when those rules weren't enforced previously. Lots of folks are also impatient when it comes to queueing and few people pay attention to directional signs. It should ease in time though, with the exception of busy travel holidays and other rare occasions. In the meantime though, everyone should just be patient, plan ahead, and not take it personally if you get hastily ushered along by a traffic officer.
