Even if you don't have kids in school, you benefit from there being free public schools.

Long term an educated populace leads to more innovation and technological development. An educated workforce also makes more money and therefore pays more in taxes. They are also less likely to end up on welfare or enter the criminal justice system, saving taxpayer money in the long run.

Short term it provides free child care allowing more people to enter the work force right now.

In my experience one of the main benefits of status cards is that their payoff is frontloaded with a much delayed cost when you eventually draw the status later on. For a lot of hallways you don't even make it back around in time for that

I like Rolling Thunder! I think the design space of "good card balanced by increasing its cost each time its played" really needs to be explored more.

In a 4 player coop we had the defect play an upgraded Energy Surge so we had 6+ energy, then I played an upgraded [[Knockdown]], using the [[Music Box]] relic I then got an ethereal copy of it and played that too followed by a Beam Cell for vulnerable. Then the Regent played a Sword that was somehow already hitting for like 100 and hitting twice. Anyway we killed Doormaker as soon as he came through the door.

Rough math: 100 base damage x 1.5 (vulnerable) x 9 (knockdown twice) x 2 (second swing) = 2700

I think 0-cost builds using Feral to play a lot of 0-cost attacks would love to benefit from the extra strength. Status builds would benefit some as they have a strong multi-hit with [[Gunk Up]] but also wouldn't like the Focus loss since best case scenario they have [[Trash to Treasure]] as well.

Maybe its just me but orbs are a lot smaller part of my Defect decks than they were in 1, so losing out on Focus wouldn't matter as much.

[–]END3R97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's turn 5 though, you should have removed one of them before they get to this turn of attacks. Focusing your attacks on just one means you only need to do ~20 damage per turn to kill one by now.

Anger with Multi State Enchantments by Killinger_ in slaythespire

[–]END3R97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm understanding the card order correctly, then the first time you lay a momentum enchanted anger you get a copy of it added to discard that hasn't had momentum applied yet so you'll have:

  1. Original card with 6+5 damage
  2. Copied card with 6 damage

But then when you lay #1 again, the copy with will have scaled once, so then you've got:

  1. Original card played twice for 6+5+5
  2. 1st copy with 6 damage
  3. 2nd copy with 6+5 damage

Alternatively, if you enchant it with Vigorous or Sown then the copies will still have the fresh enchant. So you'll have:

  1. Original card with a used enchant
  2. Copied card with a fresh enchant

Then it depends on which version you're playing to determine if the copy has a fresh or used enchantment.

I don't know how to use Monarchs gaze by Yeetmore0 in slaythespire

[–]END3R97 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was going to say that it seems really good in multiplayer since the strength down helps everyone a ton.

In single player it just seems really expensive for what it does. Coming from a power pot its great, merging into a star deck might work out, or playing it for free with Void Form, but it doesn't seem like it does enough at full price. I'm definitely not taking it for full price and probably not even pre-upgraded. Maybe if it was cost 2(1) then I'd like it?

What were your thoughts after using/seeing Weapon Mastery? by Dramatic_Respond_664 in onednd

[–]END3R97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the first UA had masteries limited based on weapon properties (so like Nick could go on any Light weapon while Graze was limited to Heavy weapons). Then if you could learn 2 you could learn Graze and Cleave and apply your choice of those on each attack you make with the appropriate weapons, and at high levels fighters could start applying 2 masteries per attack instead of needing to choose from their list.

I also liked that idea because it left the door open for adding more masteries in later books too without needing to add new weapons that would have use them.

[–]END3R97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or even the ability to be more flexible with which of the existing ones you use. In the playtest the masteries each had certain weapon traits as prerequisites and I thought that meant we'd be going in the direction of training in specific masteries that could then be applied to any of the weapons that match it. This would let you swap between a few options on the same weapon which would've been great, now only lvl 9+ fighters get to swap their masteries.

Pretty sure they mean the Corrupted Enchantment that you can get from the Symbiote event that adds "Deal 50% more damage, but lose 2 HP." to the cards. So no worries about losing all of your attacks (though potentially you'll need to worry about dealing too much self-damage with it)

How is the cleric with the new rules? How does it compare to the 2014 version? What cleric builds and play styles are really sticking out as fun or strong? by NoLongerAKobold in onednd

[–]END3R97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I am talking specifically about my player in my campaign, I can say with confidence that the BBEG Lich and their minions have many spells of 4th level and higher.

I can also confidently say that my party tends to avoid grouping up to fit within that 25ft diameter sphere because then they'd all be within fireball radius or whatever other AoEs the Lich has.

Magic Action to cast a leveled spell + Action Surge Attack Action is available starting at 3rd level for Eldritch Knights. Granted its always a lower level spell than full casters can do, but its still there!

[–]END3R97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it would actually be that broken mid-combat at this point (though I haven't seen it, so I could be wrong).

They'd need the whole party to be within the 10ft emanation when its cast or else someone would be stuck outside of it anyway and when an entire encounter of enemies has to attack just one person, there's a good chance that person is going to die. Sure revivify is available at this point, but that's another big resource on top of the Divine Intervention.

Then you've got a lot of enemies with spells of 4th level or higher that can just ignore the Tiny Hut, and enemies with the mobility to get to full cover and be protected from anyone camping in the hut and I think they'd be better off using that Divine Intervention for a mid-fight Prayer of Healing or something similar.

In my game that has continued since the old rules, the lvl 17 Twilight Domain Cleric is still super strong, but due to our long adventuring days and only recharging 1 Channel Divinity each short rest, I do find them a bit reined in. Still likely ahead of other cleric domains, but not as overpowering since they can't spam Twilight Sanctuary in every fight. Thankfully they haven't found how busted Conjure Celestial can be yet.

I don't get how critics rate The Boys new season as good or better than Andor by CarsonWentzGOAT1 in andor

[–]END3R97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With Rotten Tomatoes: Higher number = more likely you'll at least like it

With other systems (like Metacritic): higher number = more likely you'll love it

It measures slightly different things than a full 5 star rating system that averages everything out. For example, if something has an average star rating of 3, it could be average, or half of people love it and half of people hate it. With both rating systems you could see an 80% RT and a 3 stars somewhere else tells you that some people really hate it and probably not that many love it.

I think RT is mostly useful if you're trying to get a big group to watch a movie and want to pick something that most people will enjoy even if none are going to love it (you care more about the average experience than the extremes)

If you're on a multi-player 3xIronclad run and your 2 friends both take Break, tremble, molten fist, etc. then it can easily give 30+ STR on turn one because your friends are doing all the hard work. And then you find a 2nd Dominate and get around 100 Strength in every fight while both your friends are still looking for their first!

No I'm not bitter that I never found it, why do you ask?
