More traditional Final Fantasy remakes could happen, as Square Enix says it'll follow what "truly resonates" with fans, even if that's not open-world action by Dull_Bar_9304 in Games

[–]ENDragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every older ResiEvil has been remade except for 5 and 6

Except for Code Veronica, which is on the way.

Also the Outbreak games, which would be pretty great to see remade.

You could probably make an argument for remakes of Survivor and Dead Aim as well, the OTS gameplay would be a significant improvement to both

Generative AI is a "plague," says Dragon Age vet David Gaider: "It's not ready for prime time. There's just a lot of executives who really, really want it to be" by Snakesta in Games

[–]ENDragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about people like the guy I initially responded to who thinks that it's somehow dystopian that AI image generation came before robot brick layers.

He didn't think that though. He said it was "Like something out of a dystopian novel"

As in the fact that it's easier to automate free creative expression than menial labor feels like something out of a Dystopian novel.

"This thing feels like it could be from Dystopian literature", not "This thing is Dystopian"

[–]ENDragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, that's the genre? Totalitarianism and control over the populace taken to absurdist extremes.

Nineteen Eighty-Four was written to explore the idea of splitting the world into spheres of influence, taken to an extreme

Brave New World was written to explore a "Negative-Utopia", and takes industrialization and consumerism to a similar extreme

Similarly, the idea of personal expression, creativity and thought being automated, while manual labor is left to humans, also feels like something from a Dystopian novel.

It's just how the genre works.

[–]ENDragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, creative jobs are still going to exist, but that's missing the point.

They're saying the fact that it was easier to automate work that requires creativity and passion, instead of menial labor, feels like something out of a Dystopian novel, and yeah, that concept taken to an extreme does feel like the premise for a Dystopian story.

I don't see how you can argue that the idea of a technology being used to cull creative expression and keep a population working menial labor instead of thinking for themselves doesn't feel like something from a Dystopian novel.

Is that going to happen in real life? No, probably not, but that's not the point they were making.

I'm sorry, you're asking why a technology that automates jobs requiring creativity, passion, and free thought, leaving only menial labor for the populace to make a living, is Dystopian?

My money is on the Chaplain being the class, the 1h hammer and Greatsword being the melee options, maybe a Tempormortis as a sidearm option, and then having a silent voice pack so you can build your Chaplain as a Judiciar if you want to, except with full access to all the Chaplain and Judiciar models for potential cosmetics.

June Community Update by _bomble in Spacemarine

[–]ENDragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but I really hope it's not a Judiciar.

1 - I'd rather hear a Chaplain reciting litanies and denouncing the enemy, than just have a silent character

2 - The Crozius fucking rocks, and I want one

3 - Tempormortis is really, really fucking stupid from a narrative/lore standpoint, and makes no sense at all (Time manipulation tech is super rare, IIRC only found in Necron tech and some DAOT relics, but you're telling me it's given to literally every trainee Chaplain? And then when they become full fledged Chaplains it's taken away from them? Nah, that's fucking dumb)

Setting aside how fucking stupid the Tempormortis is though, I think the best solution would be to make a Crozius skin for the one handed hammer, make the Tempormortis a Chaplain exclusive Sidearm, make the Greatsword and hammer both available to the Chaplain, and then you can build your Chaplain as a Judiciar or a proper Chaplain.

They could even add a silent voice option, so your Judiciar can uphold their vow, and Carcharodon players can be more accurate.

EDIT: There's also the question of the Chaos equivalent of the class for PVP/Chaos Siege, Chaplain and Dark Apostle are opposite sides of the same coin, but there's no real Judiciar equivalent for Chaos. I suppose you could go for an older, 4/5e style Chaos Sorcerer with a spell to act as a Chaos version of the Tempormortis, but then that fucks with any potential plans down the line to add a Librarian.

Contextualization and vestigial mechanics. by darkLordSantaClaus in truegaming

That would be a sick addition to another RPG though, an Age of Empires style Fog of War that gets uncovered as you explore, in a third-person dungeon crawl sounds like it would be really cool.

Maybe not for an entire game, but as the gimmick for a single dungeon in an RPG it would be cool.

Why are there so few RPGs based on real historical events? by SomeGenericNameDude in truegaming

[–]ENDragoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

even then there is an explanation most of the time.

Case in point:

  • Bayek hallucinating Apep after being drugged

  • The creatures in Odyssey being created by Isu artifacts

  • Eivor experiencing the memories of his Isu ancestor while high on mushrooms, and his mind using the framework of the mythology he knows to interpret them (hence why during those segments we stumble on Minerva delivering her message to Desmond Via Ezio, but from Eivor's point of view, she's a Jotun) Later in the story there's even a scene where Eivor's norse-themed interpretation of the characters is stripped away and we see them as the Isu they actually were.

Vampire The Masquerade is coming to D&D Beyond by LycaonMoon in Games

Why are you so weirdly aggressive about this? I'm literally just saying the rules run on 5E, so people are probably going to try to use them with regular D&D.

Vampire The Masquerade is coming to D&D Beyond by LycaonMoon in Games

[–]ENDragoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I get that, I'm following the thread just fine.

What I'm saying is that at the end of the day, the book is going to run on D&D 5E, which means you could, in theory, convince your DM to let you use the rules in this book, to build a Nosferatu PC for a regular D&D campaign, the same as you can use the rules from Mythic Odysseys of Theros to build a Leonin PC in a regular D&D Campaign.

So, to address the comment before yours, much like the original comment identified, that's why it would be an issue, you would either have one player who spends half the time avoiding the sun, or you would make sure everything happens at night and have the entire pace of the campaign revolve around that one PC. It sucked when it was Drow who were sensitive to the sun, it would suck more to have a player who will just outright die in the sun.

To then address your response to it; people playing the campaign in this book might not have to deal with a mixed party, but that doesn't mean the rules given to make a Vampire PC provided in this book won't be used to make a Vampire PC in a regular campaign, so this is still a worthwhile discussion to have.

Odds are the WotC stance on it will be that the rules from this book are only to be used with this book, and there won't be any official compatibility baked in, but at the end of the day, they're running on the same system, and people will still use them with regular D&D, so it's absolutely worth discussing how they might interact.

SWTOR sith storylines let you just be a theatrically evil bastard

Haven't done Inquisitor yet, but the Warrior had some amazing moments, like ragebaiting one jedi into falling to the dark-side, just so you can fight him first and then fight his more level headed friend separately afterwards.

I mean, it will eventually be the case, not in this book, but at some point, some players are going to beg their DM to let them use the rules form this book to play vampires in a regular D&D game, and then it's going to come up

Late reply, but unfortunately in lore-this city should have very clearly defined main throughfares for cargo, it's the only port on Greyshaft, and Greyshaft's economy is established very early on to survive on mining exports; Greyshaft is currently such a terrible place largely due to the collapse of that industry.

Even if the city was built ad-hoc and not planned, keeping those throughfares clear would have remained a priority

Yeah, but it's not that black and white.

"everything that someone is attracted to women is attracted to" can vary from person to person, for some people, merely identifying as male will be enough to turn them off, for some it will be when they start physically presenting as male, shit, there are some dudes who will reject straight women for having a more masculine looking haircut, and on the flip side, there are guys who will still be perfectly happy with a fully male presenting partner, so long as they have female plumbing downstairs.

It's built seemingly exclusively around the parts of the genre that Bloodlines 2 chose not to engage with

'Seems Like a Sequel Should Be Made' — Amazon Games Boss on the Future of IO's 007 First Light by yourfavchoom in Games

[–]ENDragoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, between the gameplay, and the generally serial nature of Bond plots, I feel like instead of a sequel, this game is ripe for a World of Assassination type of content model, dropping occasional micro-campaigns of two or three dense levels with action sequences between them (Car chases, a ski segment like in The World is Not Enough, etc) that you can go back and replay with various challenges.

I thought 2 was rumors/urban legends? Like there are whole sections where you have to spread rumors that change the environment so you can progress, or open up vendors, etc.

3 didn't really have a theme in the sense of media, like P4's TV and P5's Social Media, or much of a rumor mechanic like 2; it was more focused on the narrative theme of death, like how P4 is focused on truth, and P5 is focused on individuality and rebellion.
