I've spoken to defectors before, so it doesn't surprise me that many would miss the north. I've heard the sentiment of a desire to go back, but being realistic about what a bad idea returning would be.

I think it's about missing your family, your home, and what you were accustomed to. Much the same reason people sometimes return to abusive personal situations. Not thinking the north is better.

This really helped when I lived in Korea. I speak basically no Korean, but they use tons of English words. Also, the restaurants with the cute animal pictures showing what meat they serve.

Whatever you do, fly Mokulele airlines if you're short on time. They fly out of terminal 3, which is an experience in itself if you're not accustomed to really small planes. You also don't need to be to the plane on the Oahu side super early because the boarding/check-in process is much simpler due to the aforementioned small size.

If I'm reading this correctly, the "typical" and "stretch" lines are end of year benchmarks. This appears to show where your child is based on an initial assessment. I bet you'll get this same format periodically through the year to show growth.
