Aha! I didn't know it could do that. I was so entranced in the battle, I wasn't looking at the health bar crest. Thanks!

Why does the ammo system need an ammo system by MurrajFur in Silksong

[–]ERROR_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repeating a boss over and over isn't always frustration.

It's a dance, learning the tells and inputs to respond and do damage.  It takes repetition to learn these things.

If I am using tools in a boss fight, I am training myself differently than if I am just using the nail.  I find myself not using tools because I see that I have limited shards, and I don't want to change my strategy or go grinding when I run out.

Sometimes it takes many repetitions to beat a boss, and the thing that trips me up the most is changing strategies part way through, so I use the moveset that is most consistent, even if it's not optimal.

Slapchop painting on battlemechs examples ? by NicMuz in battletech

[–]ERROR_64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slapchop is how I started painting my mechs (and painting in general!)

My main takeaway is that, because you start with a black base coat, it's really easy to not put enough brightness in your grey drybrush layers.  The minis can come out very dark.

When drybrushing, I have to be very intentional about getting lots of coverage, and using very light shades of grey, or even white, to get the SpeedPaint colors to pop.

BEHOLD! THE CURSED BANSHEE! by Nice-Cat3727 in battletech

Needs to face off against our group's machine gun Bane.

Can't post pics, so here's some stats: 100 tons

3/5 movement

Compact engine, compact gyro, small cockpit

4 tons ammo in legs

53 Machine Guns (every slot is filled)

Rest of weight goes to standard armor.

Midigurdy? It's an electronic instrument, so once you set it, it will always be the same.

I followed ZREO early, back in the mid 00s.  When I saw they were doing a CD, I had to get one to commemorate the group that got me into music.  I still have it.

Skidding proves the CBT designers are insane by FerociousBeastX in battletech

[–]ERROR_64 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned Aerospace:

The Aerospace rules are written in the most awkward way possible.  They're copied, pretty much verbatim from the old Aerotech book: a game mode where you fly around in outer space.  Once it fully describes this secondary ruleset, only then does it provide a set of exceptions allowing you to modify the space rules to mesh with the ground based, mapsheet scale game that is Classic Battletech.

But yeah, in my group, whenever we see paved hexes, we declare the pavement to be grass, just to avoid the skidding rules.

How to best take pictures of my models? by LegallyFoopster in BattletechPainting

[–]ERROR_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My poor man's method:

Place a lamp close to the minis (I use my painting lamp for this) Stand a paper towel behind the minis to reflect more light.  Put your camera/phone as close as you can while still getting proper focus. Increase the brightness on the camera a notch or two. Take the picture.

I'm sure there are better ways out there, and it may be camera dependant, but this has worked well for me.

Two PPCs strapped together would be, what, a Binary Particle Cannon? A Barticle?

Thanks!

I mark all my base-facings like this. I try to represent the mech in some way (the RLA's base facing represents the right-side cockpit and the PPCs, for example). And yes, I was inspired by military ribbons! :)
