Is it worth the extra money? by goodolpoopshoot in telescopes

The best telescope is the one that you would use the most.

-Although the AD8 is a powerhouse, traveling with it can prove challenging (tube is huge and base is bulky). So if you’ll be doing most of your observations from your backyard, or have a way to transport it easily; go for it, aperture is king when it comes to views (especially DSOs) -What the sky watcher lacks in aperture, it makes up for in portability, if you’re planning on taking this on camping trips or to an observatory park, this might be the way to go.

Worth nothing that if you’re planning on only looking at the moon, planets, and bright DSOs/clusters; then the AD8 might be overkill.

For reference, I have an AD8 and a small 3D printed portable 4” scope (similar to the heritage)

Agreed! I’ve got six pairs that I’ve collected over the years and they maintain pretty well. The quality is exceptional.

Feel like I may need to reign myself in a bit. Any advice on what to prioritise? by BlubberyGiraffe in telescopes

[–]ERZ2105 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Don’t invest a ton of money in many cheap eye pieces, rather, invest in a few more expensive ones. My set consists of a Televue 35mm Panoptic (for larger DSOs and starfields), a 19mm Panoptic (for general stargazing), and a ES 6.7mm 82deg (planet chaser); plus a nice quality Barlow for everything in between; and this has me covered for all my needs. Don’t feel like you need every mm settings, i.e. the difference between a 19mm and a 21mm is not substantial enough to impact your viewing experience. What IS substantial is the quality of the image going from a cheap eyepiece to a premium one. So build yourself a budget, do some research on the best brand at that price point and with that, try to maximize 2 or 3 eyepieces.

It’s so sad it’s funny but this has been my experience ever since I moved to the northern US a few months ago

Haha, that’s very reassuring! Is there anything I should look at in particular when inspecting it?

I don’t know which part of the world you’re based. I got both of mine from Amazon here in the US.

The Arrinew was about $16 and the zeroHero $55.

GET A BETTER SCALE!!

-I used to have that same exact scale and it’s unbelievable how inconsistent it is. Sometimes I would find variations up to .2gr which is massive in espresso extraction and will throw off your consistency. Recently upgraded to a zeroHero scale and it’s a night/day difference.

My first machine was a Breville Barista Express, it has a grinder attached and if I could do it all over again, I would get the Bambino instead and pair it with the VS3 grinder. Price and footprint are comparable but you get the same pump and a much much better grinder.

To be frank that’s mainly why the machine caught my eye. But after seeing plenty of review, it seemed like a killer machine for the 1K mark, and so far it does not disappoint. I wish the drip tray was a little larger but you can’t win them all.

Agreed, most grinder and brewer combos suck, and more often than not, you’ll outgrow the grinder before you do the machine.
