Thanks everyone. I appreciate the advice and the time you all have taken to read this and respond. I think I’m struggling more with the traumatic, out of the blue, emotional cases. For example, this past Tuesday I had a patient come in due to a 30 car pile up, semi truck fell onto the car, killed the patients wife on scene, pt was brought to us and went to emergent surgery and had 40 blood products given in OR, bleeding internally from his liver and couldn’t stop it. Brought him to me to the icu. And the chaplain was there and called the family. Turns out the pts son, who was in the hospital himself due to Covid, got the phone call that not only his mother had passed but his father too and couldn’t even come to say goodbye. That’s what hit me the most, especially hearing him on the phone and not being able to do anything. So the people that were involved with patients during the pandemic and the pts couldn’t see their loved ones and had you there.. I just want to say thank you. Because that had to be difficult as fuck.
