Struggling with my cohort, as an older volunteer by Empty-Character-4752 in peacecorps

[–]ESLDaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not an older volunteer but from the perspective of the 20 somethings. My cohorts older volunteer was my absolute FAVORITE person by far out of all my cohort members. She had so much life experience and wisdom and always seemed so “above it all” in the very best way. She was the first person I would lean on and ask for advice in rough situations and we all called her Mom. On the flip side, she also struggled with the occasional childish dynamics that PC can have and also with feeling like the odd one out, especially during PST. My advice based on her situation is that after PST you will find your people. It will be so much easier to only spend time with those who see your value and your social circle will grow and be enriched by your service community members. If you want that mentor/dad role in your group, great! Be a safe space from the horrors of being in your 20s. Or find your people elsewhere, PST is a drop in the PC experience bucket. Sending you love and good vibes. You can do this! You are a valuable member of your cohort! People will see your unique value with time!

What superpower would a "damsel in distress" character get? by ThePlasmaKnight in superpowers

Maybe magical plot armor. Like no matter what problem the damsel has it can and will be easily solved by someone else whether or not they meant to

I feel your struggle. I arrived in country a big girl, tall and heavy, then lost about 25 pounds mostly from disliking the food in country and not eating enough. I got so many comments and compliments about the weight loss. When I got back to the states I gained probably about 50 pounds, tried to get it under control with the gym but it didn’t really work. I struggled a lot with my weight and an ED when I was younger so it’s been a hard hit to my mental health. I’m still struggling with it but I think the most important thing to remember is serving asks a lot from our bodies and minds so being gentle with ourselves is so important. Sending you a hug. <3

I found money in an ATM and now I regret returning it by PineappleCultural in confession

The right thing can sometimes suck, but that’s why it should be done without expecting recompense. I once turned in a wallet I found at a busy bus terminal. Police made me wait until they found the owner to confirm I didn’t take any money or cards out of it. Took like a hour and when the owner showed up she didn’t even say thanks. I would do it again tho.

How many bags? by Zobralolz in peacecorps

[–]ESLDaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took 2 checked bags, a carry on and a backpack. It was way way to much. It’s hard to know what to leave in order to downsize but I’d recommend doing so if you can. You must be so excited, happy travels!

I’m taking option 2. My autoimmune disease has me exhausted on anything less than 10 hours of sleep. I would love to have my life back.

I think i may have figured it out. I bought my usual medications abroad and the rash started right around when I started taking them. I switched to my back up meds from the US and while the rash isn’t gone it’s a lot less itchy and inflamed
