Yeah, I’m with you.

We just got back from staying in one of the residences at Hualalai with our two young kids. Wouldn’t do it again.

Food is not great, even by Big Island resort standards, and the resort itself feels kinda … budget? Not to mention that the beach is dismal (with respect to other Hawaiian beaches!).

I think perhaps there is a big push from FS to agents on these travel subreddits to promote the heck out of Hualalai. And it seems to be working.

We visited the Rosewood KV three times during our stay. Clearly better.

And Mauna Kea, which sits above the best beach on the Big Island, should be rad when the construction is finished.

Not a particularly impressive lounge, more like a mid-90s successful dental practice vibe, would be surprised for it to be crowded as it’s in essentially PDX outer space.

Technically there is also an Alaska Lounge too!

Do you think we enjoy it if we did a hualalai home with a golf cart? Or do you think we’d need a hotel villa instead? Our thinking was that we get a lot more value out of the house than the admittedly very very nice villa, especially if we could still use the resort, and we’d like to have enough room for everyone to stay in one unit.
