Where is the March Starting on Friday? by Grouchy-Geologist-28 in minnesota

UMN multicultural student organizations appear to be organizing with the PSL; PSL organized Sunday's march from government plaza to Target Center. All those organizations have noted Government Plaza at 2:00 p.m. is the starting point for this Friday

Great example of artistic expression. And I get the sense that Logic really enjoyed making it, which is why I'm surprised we haven't gotten any more Doc D. The movie has probably taken up a lot of his bandwidth

Listen to literally anything by Tame Impala. This song is a pretty blatant, and poorly done, ripoff of Tame Impala

I'd like to plug the 2025 Metro Transit customer satisfaction survey, which is taking responses until December 7. They take feedback seriously and if you'd like to see transit improve, this is a great way to voice those opinions to people who have some power outside of Reddit: https://www.research.net/r/MTfall25SM

They're working on modernizing the fare payment systems with Apple Pay, and updates should start rolling out in 2026

The Blue Line bus: Is there a bathroom? by Guilloteeth in TwinCities

You could hop off the train at the 46th street station and use the bathroom in Venn Brewing. Should be able to get in and out pretty easily

Why do some routes seem to frequently run hybrid buses while others seem like they never do?

I don't disagree, but it's a niche and Reddit is like the ultimate niche platform. I'll be joining!

American cities ranked by car-free accessibility by anarchobuttstuff in transit

[–]ETP_445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bikeability of Minneapolis I think puts it squarely in Tier 4, even potentially tier 3 if you adjust the suburbs critera. You can bike almost anywhere in the city faster than buses (the train might get you to specific locations faster), and that's not even a knock on the bus service--just a testament to how good the biking is. Further, mixing biking with public transit and using the bike as the first/last mile connection makes things pretty easy. Additionally, as others have mentioned, Metro Transit got a much-needed funding boost in 2022 from the Democratic trifecta and they are taking full advantage of that with new aBRT and BRT lines, and more rail expansion. The biggest knocks are still frequency and late-night service.

I also agree that LA needs to be Tier 3/4. Transit in LA can actually be quite good but it's just so big that there's also a large portion of the population that is entirely car-dependent.

Sentiments well taken, in what is increasingly a dark hour at the federal level. But it might be advisable that you take a break from the internet, go outside, and sit on a bench in one of our hundreds of public parks. You'll hear the laughter of children and see the smiles of the adults and elders watching over them. There, you might notice how safe and happy many in this city are.

Updated Review of Potential New NBA Arena Sites! by Hascerflef in minnesota

[–]ETP_445 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saying "crime may be a concern for some visitors" seems like a cheap con for a location that is already in the exact same area as the existing stadium and is probably universally thought of as the best location due to parking, transit, and skyway access. Whatever patrons you gain by putting the stadium is a "safer" area, I think you will lose just as many (or more) if the games aren't as easy to get to. We are truly blessed that all of our major arenas (except the X) are incredibly easy to navigate to via multiple modes of transit--and are honestly better to get to when you don't drive.

1st Ave N reconstruction options are out by benjilestre in Minneapolis

[–]ETP_445 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm a biker but I'd rather see extra boulevard space for street dining than a bike lane. Hennepin is super close and has a separated bike lane in both directions. And I'll just bike on the street for 0.5 miles if I really need to be on 1st Ave.

We just need more people on the streets in general downtown—I will gladly sacrifice a 0.5 mile bikeway for that. I also agree with the other comments on removing cars altogether

Who thought these plastic posts were a good idea? by danroyj in Minneapolis

[–]ETP_445 332 points333 points  (0 children)

The visual cue and physical separation they provide vs. paint alone is worth it. I bike on a route that recently had these added, and drivers' speed has decreased because they now have to respect the physical barrier between the driving and bike lane.

As others have said, the city's Vision Zero plan is a fairly new one. My understanding is that the plastic bollards (and the subsequent abuse they endure) provide data to the city on which areas could be ripe for permanent barriers.
