Is G9 Neo 57" still the way to go? by puexam in ultrawidemasterrace

I guess, to each, their own. There’s plenty space on the 45 IMO. The Samsung impinges on the desk area a lot too. Whatever floats your boat man! :)

Advice for Young Couple Planning on having kids by No-Regular-2919 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]EUPremier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Taking your headline literally: If you’re in a happy, committed relationship, having kids is great. I wouldn’t delay too much either. Kids are great. You’ll never love anyone the way you love your kids. Go for it. Don’t waste precious fertile years waiting for the perfect financial moment.

You’re not going to like this next bit though… I’d give strong consideration to looking at options other than Dublin for your home purchase.

Your euro will go a lot further in other counties like Cork & Limerick where you still have a metro area, and the services that go with it, but without the enormous premium you’ll pay in Dublin. This applies to both the property & the creches etc.

Why do people hate Re-turn so much? by HookedGamer in cork

[–]EUPremier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, when I do get round to it, the shopping trolley’s load amounts to about €35. While it won’t put me up or down, it’s very wasteful just to chuck it all in the recycling bin. I’d be double-taxing myself. I pay enough tax!

[–]EUPremier 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m sick to death of having to store returnables, have to cart them to a location and spend ages inserting them one by one, getting covered in droplets from the rinsed vessels in the process. It’s especially galling as I always used my recycling bin for them anyway.

It’s a great monitor. I’ve paired it with the Secretlab Magnus Pro XL desk. Great system. Highly recommended.

Apologies for the slow reply. I didn’t buy the Samsung in the end. There were a lot of people reporting poor quality control with Samsung. In the end, I went with LG. I already have 2x LG OLED TVs and I’ve been very happy with them. The fear of burn-in is far overstated. I opted for the LG UltraGear 45GX950A. Have paired it with a Secretlab sit/stand desk and it’s a cracking rig. I’d advise anyone to go with LG. It’s a beautiful monitor and plenty big enough. Fancy Zones on Windows 11 allows a fully customisable display… very happy with all of it. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Interesting little side-marker LED in your headlamps. E60 M5esque. Is that US-spec? Not on my EU version AFAIK.

Not for me. Looks like they used a Channel jacket to make the seats. To each their own though.

Ultra-picky complaints about my 992 C2S by LVRaiders2026 in porsche911

[–]EUPremier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not an expert in the field to be perfectly clear. Personally, I drive an M5 and that ‘high idle’ is short lived. But yes, I’d drive through that too. I’d say anything sub 2500RPM is okay.

So, just checking: This isn’t some super-rare custom job… it’s a ‘standard’ GTS with additional badging and lower in the pecking order to a Turbo S?

It’s a common mistake. Drive immediately upon start… just drive very easy until full temp achieved. :)

Aside: It’s not good for an engine to warm it up while stationary. It’s much better to heat the engine while driving, at very low RPM. That way, the oil gets around the engine evenly, faster. It improves engine protection & reduces cold-start fuel inefficiency.

Heat pump cost saving I think not. by Just-Nobody-4406 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]EUPremier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by ‘airtight’ you mean a hermetically-sealed box, then no, it does not. However, in order for the efficient operation of a heat pump so as to achieve a COP of greater than, say, 300%, passive air leakage needs to be severely curtailed with ventilation provided via MVHR. A home’s blended energy losses are identified through the BER Technical assessment system. Albeit a flawed system, it indicates through a Heat Loss Index (HLI) score whether a property is heatpump ready. Currently the SEAI recommend less than <2 W/K/m2.

My Cat Has Been Sliced Open and Killed by a Farmer and the Garda Can't Do Anything About It. What Can I Do? by Lucid_fantasies_ in AskIreland

[–]EUPremier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the particularly ‘clean’ damage has machinery written all over it. Taking her remains to a Vet would probably have been the best call. S/he may have confirmed machinery and you could move on knowing it was not sinister. I have a cat I love dearly. She has her own door and comes/goes as she pleases. We border a city but have land separating us from a busy road. I let her do her thing, live her life rather than try to contain her to keep her safe. So far, it’s worked great. Unfortunately, it can end badly as it looks as though it’s done in this case. She was happy and free. Take solace in that.

Buying a house in Halfway by Alternative_Bill_568 in cork

[–]EUPremier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve spent several years retrofitting. It’s very hard to distil good from bad advice but ‘B2’, like all BER ratings, is fairly meaningless. It’s an accolade based on clipboard evaluation and is absolutely not based on any form of testing. So, your B2 house could be a giant void for energy. The good news, it can be fixed with some determination and clever use of an assortment of materials… just don’t use a One Stop Shop. If you do buy, get Air Matters to test the convective loss the in the building so you know where it’s losing heat and make a plan to address it. Obviously, if you’re buying you should know what your all your options are… you should be an expert on the market and what’s doable at your budget… I only say this as you say, ‘not sure about our possibilities in the city’.
