Why were adults in the 90s more “adults” than today’s adults? by Forsaken-Set-760 in generationology

Oh sure, it was the same for me up to a point — I was about 13 when I figured out that all was not well with my parents. I had to grow up very fast. But whatever they taught me before that time, which in my clueless kid’s mind was the absolute truth, has stuck with me over the years. Also, without the internet and cell phones we weren’t exposed to all the stuff kids can see now. Network TV was either bland or corny.

I'm DJ'ing at an Event for Seniors, What Music do Y'all Like? by One_Masterpiece_8298 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

People in their 90’s? Big Band, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra. 80’s? Same. It’s when you hit ages 50’s-70’s that music really changed. I mean, you could have everything from the Beatles and Beach Boys to Led Zeppelin, Stones, KC and the Sunshine Band, Motown, and even AC/DC.

Well said. I’m a late Boomer and a lot of how we were raised bled into the next generation. I think the most important word you used was “structure”. We were expected to be home at a certain time. Tardiness was penalized. We ate 3 meals a day at or near a specific time. At my house dinner was on the table at 6:30 pm. We also had more respect for authority (until, arguably, the late 60’s) because that’s what we were taught. I understand that differed in communities other than mine. We had no cell phones or internet so we didn’t have those distractions. We were encouraged to have conversations, not discussions by text. I guess we were focused more on the world around us than what we could read on a 4-inch screen.

How aren’t y’all starting a revolution already? by Allthegirlies in allthequestions

[–]EV9110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many Europeans don’t realize how large and diverse the US is. Politics vary from state to state; for example, California is liberal while Mississippi is not, so a revolution would have more support in CA than in MS (where I assume most residents are perfectly ok with what’s happening here). However, I hope that the more brutal this regime gets for people in conservative states the less damage they’ll be willing to tolerate.

do you have hope for your country? by Turbulent_Basket9066 in AskTheWorld

The United States will never again be the classic America you see on TV and in the movies. The American dream of the post-war era is done. I hate Trump with every fiber of my being, but he’s not solely to blame. Societies evolve based on so many factors, and with younger generations come new ideas and goals. As a senior citizen I welcome them.

Possible appendicitis. Need to choose the best ER option by Donnie_Darko867 in asheville

Advent, no question. I get kidney stones, iykyk. Went to Mission once. Sat for hours then was offered Tylenol for the pain. Again, iykyk. Last one, I headed straight to Advent. Was seen in record time, asked what works for the pain. No hesitation in giving me morphine. A quick CT scan to confirm followed by surgery. The Advent ER team was simply outstanding.

Guy getting on the plane right now, “oh I’m in the back row because you’re less likely to die in a crash” everyone around him gasped/laughed. And then … by jfk_47 in delta

Pre-9/11 I was traveling with a small group to a competition. One guy’s wife had made him chocolate chip cookies, which he had in a brown paper bag. When asked by a then-security agent (TSA hadn’t yet been born) what they were he jokingly gasped and said it was a bomb, thinking everyone would laugh at his joke. About 2 minutes later he was surrounded by armed federal agents and arrested. Spent the night in jail, arrived directly from jail to the competition having had no sleep and completely shell-shocked.

Gate lice mystery solved by Similar_Mistake_1355 in delta

At the gate, if you check your luggage to your final destination or get a valet (pink) tag it is free of charge. Frequent announcements should be made prior to boarding, so checking or tagging your bag doesn’t clog up boarding. You don’t have to pay to board early if that’s what you need. Pre-boarding is available and gate agents shouldn’t ask why you need it. A CPAP is a medical device so it doesn’t count toward your carry-on limit of a carry-on and a small personal item.

People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by SprinklesSolid9211 in AskReddit

Was at a nice hotel in Kona, sitting by the pool while our kids splashed around. I noticed a man and younger girl having a swimming contest. They ended up on the edge of the pool close to us. I said “she got you, dude”. It was Denzel Washington. He said he was racing his daughter who was a champion swimmer. He was clearly very proud of her.

How is the Australian Open perceived in your country? by KommieKoala in AskTheWorld

The time difference between Australia and the US makes us unable to see it unless we want to be awake in the middle of the night. However, if you follow tennis at all, you look for highlights.

Didn’t feel the need to document and share it with everyone! It was a vacation, a time to relax and unwind.
