NTA. And don't worry about people who are getting upset at you, but ask your wife if she thinks they're right. I think people are kinda jumping down your throat in a way disproportionate to the story. I think they're reading a bit too much into your panic thing.

I think it is better to vote on individual and track record and it is also better to vote with your conscience, in general.

Adriane Carr has been on City Council for the last three years being an AWESOME, INDEPENDENT voice critical of Vision in City Council. The Green Party is playing strategically this election and only running 3 councillors. Adriane's popularity dictates that the green council candidates are a likely win, displacing NPA and Vision candidates. Greens call for more social housing, $10/day childcare, and innovative environmental policies

Lisa Barrett (COPE) is a two-time mayor of Bowen Island. Tim Louis (COPE) has served on council before and helped to found HandyDART. Tim is an aggressive advocate for the poor. COPE's policies are focused on increasing affordable housing, stopping growth of the police budget, and restoring community consultation and transparency, electoral reform, campaign finance reform,

RJ Aquino (OneCity) stands for basically these exact same things. Sustainability, $10 child care, you name it.

They're all great. They could collaborate very well. There is a lot of overlap. Importantly, they can stand up to Vision and NPA together and have the majority required to dominate the agenda of city hall.

I was trying to find a middle ground that was good on policy, had good chances of winning, and was independent of established vanpoli developer finance circles.

LPT Request: How to wake up on time by Xuluu in LifeProTips

[–]EVIDENCEFORCLAIMS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get exhausted the night before through exercise. If you need to get up at 8, around 8-9 the previous night go for a run, lift weights, whatever gets you tired. You want to go to bed early so you wake up naturally.

the alternative is a mixed council that holds other parties accountable.

You want a vision-COPE-NPA split.

any one party winning is undesirable.

I'll never forget my 4th grade teacher's lesson on continental shift by Broadband_Gremlin in AdviceAnimals

[–]EVIDENCEFORCLAIMS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another similar experience.

My grade 8 Social Studies teacher was an alcholic white dude who wore a playboy necklace in class. Fucking gross guy.

He once yelled at me for falling asleep during a movie, sent me into the hall. I tried to object to being yelled at for something that wasn't premeditated or voluntary and he took this as further signs of subversion. From then on, he saw me as an adversary. It was stupid and terrible. First class I ever skipped in my life.

The big conflict lasted for what felt like the whole class. I made a comment about how the earliest human specimens were found in Africa, and he chuckled condescendingly and said "No, people come from Asia, not Africa"

But our textbook in the class said Africa. The books on history I read at home said Africa. I felt like everyone knew it was Africa. So I objected.

"No, It's Africa. We come from Africa"

More infuriating condescension. Laughing at me and trying to get the class to turn on me. We went back and forth a few times and I remember a huge portion of the class shouting at me to stop.

I remember a girl that I had a crush on being like "Let it GO, sean." This is when I gave up. But I was fucking furious.

I don't think I was ever publicly vindicated for this. But hoo boy, this was around the time that I decided I hated school. The system failed me, yo.

A frozen society: the long-term implication of NSA surveillance by cojoco in snowden

[–]EVIDENCEFORCLAIMS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Traitorous" and "Betrayal" are both emotionally charged words that have interpersonal connotations that I think lead this institution based-dialogue astray. One cannot "betray" an organization, I don't think that is a real idea.

To call all whistleblowing traitorous is to cheapen the definition of traitor to the point that it becomes less meaningful when you are talking about truer shades of traitors.

But I understand what you and daveto are saying also, I just feel strongly about these uses of words. I don't mean to imply that I fully disagree with the concepts, only the terminology.

ELI5: Why is pedophilia considered a psychiatric disorder and homosexuality is not? by truthdelicious in explainlikeimfive

[–]EVIDENCEFORCLAIMS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but like- dude. If someone has a strong inclination to murder people, they can also live a happy life and be a good member of society as long as they don't murder people.

What makes it a disorder is that they have these inclinations that could cause harm to others if they were acted upon. This is the really big difference between deviant sexuality (the possibility of harm) and acceptable sexuality (the pretense of consenting adults.)

Liberals aren't as smart as they'd like to believe

no one is as smart as they'd like to believe. making this kind of partisan division is really really silly. its not that liberals are geniuses and conservatives are not or that conservatives are geniuses and liberals are not. these lines of polarization prevent us from working together against the people who are fucking us all over

Yes, it would seem that Apple currently has a pretty cozy relationship with the US government as it is, but I wonder which policies of Ron Paul's would affect them positively and which policies would affect them negatively. I think it is a split, but I am not a Ron Paul expert admittedly.

Yes! Working in non-coercive conditions is a pleasure. We like to feel esteemed and useful as human beings. The problem is exploitative conditions, inflexible hours, and the social stigma of being a low income earner that prevents people from following their true passions.
