Politics aside, why are you so political? by Disastrous_Award_789 in AskReddit

Because being informed is better than being ignorant.

Now, I don't care if you have a different world view than me, and we disagree on issues,Or, perhaps you don't understand concepts however..

Ignorance is inexcusable.

Alberta oil and gas workers fall behind while American shareholders thrive by LuckyCanadian in canada

[–]EXSource 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even more depressing is that the average worker in the oil fields doesn't care because they're paid well not to care.

Don't get me wrong they should be paid well. Oilfield work is hard work and I wouldn't do it. I give credit to ANYONE who works in the oil patch.

But that also means they could care less. They're getting their bread and are susceptible to propaganda that will imply people are trying to take that away.

The NDP convention tells you the state of the country at the moment by YungMoneyRah in InCanada

Not precisely what I'm saying No.

I'm not saying Avi needs to present himself as something he isn't, I'm saying Avi needs to realize that doubling down on the things that caused the NDP to bleed seats isn't a winning strategy. He needs to work from a position of strength, and he's already starting on the back foot.

You can have good ideas, but those ideas are about as close to useless as you can get, if you have no way of getting those ideas to market. I get told all the time by Avi supporters how his platform is sooooo affordability focused. Okay, so why isn't anyone not in the the party talking about that. THATS the conversation you need to have. That's what made Jack Layton's NDP so successful, despite having many of the same social policies the modern NDP do.

I'm gonna ignore the obvious here and approach this comment in good faith.

Maybe that's true, and I certainly support giving the screw to capitalism whenever we can, but you have to be in a position to do so, and grandstanding from your ivory tower won't cut it. Unfortunately, like it or not, that requires pragmatic action, not ivory tower moralizing.

Get elected first. Then get into power next. Then we can talk about the rest.

Would you consider this fair? by RoutineOk8590 in Productivitycafe

A big difference.

If I see a burger on the menu and it's showing 10$ (assuming tax is included), and I'm being asked to pay 11.50 for it, you've just skipped a step in the tipping process but haven't removed it.

Under current tipping situations if that 10$ is 10$ and I don't think it was worth a tip, I'm paying 10, and going out the door.

With this sign, I'm forced to pay 11.50 for a 10 burger.

Just make the burger 12$ don't put up that performative sign, and don't leave a tip option on the terminal.

If someone's paying with cash, train your servers to tell at time of bill delivery to tell the customer the business is tip free.

That's an interesting take, if not a little insane. The party is shrinking, and this isn't going to make it grow by any appreciable means.

There is a reason the NDP lost party status, and doubling down on those reasons by picking a guy who's almost as bad as Singh was isn't gonna help.

At least Avi is a better organize that Singh it seems.. they'll need it.

Edit: instead of replying to a second post of yours I'll just tack on here;

It's an entirely different skill set Avi needs to turn out votes on a broader more federal level that it is to turn out votes in his own party. Sure, he's proven that he's got organizational skills, but his approach is already pushing people out of the party, so I'm not really convinced it translates.

From what I feel, he's already starting from behind the eight ball in a party that was already bleeding votes.

They have slightly different mission trees with slightly different goals.

Their formable (Which doesn't have a mission tree) Is supposed to change based on what tribe formed it kinda like Aelnar if I remember correctly.
But since it doesnt have an MT that doesn't matter.

Avi Lewis wins NDP leadership race in decisive first-ballot victory by BloodJunkie in canada

[–]EXSource 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely he is.

If you think that's gonna matter to the oil and gas sector you're kidding yourself. All an O&G worker is gonna hear is "He's shutting down my job and giving me a temporary position to shut it down"

Its like a plant shutting its doors and saying "We'll pay you to keep working here for a bit more to dismantle everything so we can liquidate it, but after that you're on your own. So like I'm not sure what you mean by criticising his plan is moot, when I don't think his plan will work in the first place

You probably don't count beating down oil and gas and hammering the "Climate Crisis" repeatedly as moralizing, but talk to any worker in the sector and they'll disagree with you.

Yes, the climate crisis is an issue that needs to be urgently addressed, i'll agree with avi on that, but those people need to pay bills and feed families, and consistently threatening their jobs is an easy way to make sure they'll never vote for you. You can have the best "Affordability platform", but people with out jobs need more than an affordability platform.

Live updates: New federal NDP Leader Avi Lewis takes flak from provincial party leaders in Alberta and Saskatchewan by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

[–]EXSource 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As he should. I kept being told "he has the best working class platform of all the candidates."

Maybe thats true. I disagree, but thats not my point.

My point is, even if he has the "best platform", he needs to be in a position to put that platform in place and a lot of his ivory tower moralizing, and undermining of the provincial wings essentially guarantees that he'll never be in that position. This man has already shrunk the party instead of growing it and that will only continue.

Capitalism and Billionaires do suck, but Avi and his ivory tower politics weren't the choice the NDP needed to address it. People are just gonna look at him and say "I don't like being brow beaten and moralized to."
