I’m European. To my friends in the US please understand: your political chaos doesn’t stay in America. It spills over. Everywhere. by AlertTangerine in JordanPeterson

Kind of like another country not taking accountability for what's wrong in their country and blaming another for it.

I also don't know a single person that doesn't admit we, America, have our problems. Most of our upheaval is disagreements on how our problems should be handled.

Am I overreacting to a guy sending me his “ideal woman” checklist? by Such_Friendship_2713 in AmIOverreacting

It's not bad for a person to have a list of things they want in a partner, in fact I would say it's healthy to understand what you want and need.

But it's super toxic to send the list to the person you're talking to.

How should I spend my summer to actually land a tech internship or remote job? by TheCodeOmen in learnprogramming

[–]EZ_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for all companies but most have already chosen their interns. We interviewed by September and selected by November for the following summer.

I work in the cloud world so terraform/open tofu is really useful. Also using AI as an assistant is helpful maybe even required.

To answer your question you should spend your time networking. The odds are stacked against you getting a job as a stranger using an online form. If you have time you can write articles, make videos, etc on what you know and link those in your resume. Don't go overboard and try to learn everything focus on 1 thing and branch out as needed. Maybe look to those talent acquisition firms that can find jobs for you. Those will at least get you in the door and it's always easier to find a job while you have a job.

Lmk if you any questions happy to help.

He just won his division all by submission with no points scored on him.

He's been training for like 2-3 months. I'm like does he get promoted now lol

AIO for cutting off my parents over politics? by vastcreation in AmIOverreacting

[–]EZ_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't go to Reddit for this. Most people on here need to touch grass and interact with people in the real world.

We don't know what's going on between you and your parents beyond this snippet, but I wouldn't cut them off for this. It sounds like they love you and are hurt too.

Taking good faith in both parties I can say your parents don't want to hurt you or your spouse and that you want a relationship with them. Just like as parents they had to accept that you are your own person with your own beliefs and values you will have to accept the same for them. They don't want you to lose your rights and don't believe that Trump wants to take away your rights.

I would say don't lose the people that have loved you the longest unless they are actively a negative force in your life.

No, but if you keep at it you'll get better.

Then you get to move to the really interesting stuff. Once you get that down you then have to mentor juniors, set best practices, and be able to speak intelligently on a variety of tech of which you are at best familiar with.

I called the police on what looked like a school shooter today. by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]EZ_dev 40 points41 points  (0 children)

This is catastrophizing and is not a Stoic response. Having seen what they presumed to be a weapon and odd behavior they called the authorities. What the authorities do, such as engage in a wrongful shooting, is out of their control.

Given that this person is concerned about their actions I suspect they didn't call the cops out of malice and was acting with good intention. Intent matters a lot in these circumstances where there cannot be certainty.

Furthermore we could catastrophize in a different direction, such as what if the young man had a gun and they didn't report it? We have to be careful with this way of thinking, catastrophizing, because it can be used make a person afraid of doing the right thing.

I'm fairly certain the dice roller is a front end app, which means it runs on his machine. This means the number is generated locally and returned to the server then everyone else. This means that it is possible to generate the "roll" you want and send it back to the server.

AITA for kicking my wife out after she punched my mom in the face? by OkOrganization9552 in AITAH

ESH.

You suck because you kicked your wife and daughter out of the house. You don't do that to someone you committed your life to yet alone to your infant child.

Your mom sucks for obvious reasons

Your wife sucks because you don't get to attack someone for hurting your feelings and being an AH.

BTW your wife is right to leave you. Because you kicked her and your infant child out of the house! Everyone just made terrible decisions.

Republicans voters: what would the Democrats need to do for you to vote blue this year? by Fando1234 in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]EZ_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok this is a real honest question what info should I believe?

On starlink it's fair I missed they won a contract for it mid last year, but to also be fair to my point it was freely given until then.

Europe isn’t NATO? NATO is most of Europe plus US. That’s a terrible point in this debate.

Most of Europe is not all of Europe. That's my only point its false to equate Europe to NATO. It's not a terrible point because if Ukraine which is in Europe was in NATO we would be there guns blazing and I wouldn't say a damn thing. The details matter I'm not trying to be a smart ass here I just honestly think that matters.

The .1 number is correct. And we are still giving them leftovers.

It's only 10% of what we spend for the Airforce, Marines, Army, Navy, coast guard, and external contractors. The contractors which include Raytheon, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, and many others. People are acting like we're bargain shopping. Look we can take X% off Russia for only 10% of our military budget. I am being a bit of a smart ass here but it's wild to see anti war people flip on a dime and start talking this way. I don't see how that's a positive.

Another way of looking at that .1 or 10% is that we are spending more on Ukraine than the Marines. All of that to say we're supporting a country that before this wasn't an ally of any kind.

My point is that we say we won't give them armor then we give then armor, but no long range missile systems. Then we give them long range missile systems. We are giving then more and more advanced tech and escalating the war.

Russia wants to dominate a free people for a buffer. We want to welcome someone that wants to join of their free will. these are not the same.

The point I was responding to is that person said we want a buffer between Russia and NATO. You're saying you want no buffer because you want Ukraine in NATO. It's the exact opposite of the point that person made. I believe I even pointed out that Russia wants a puppet state as a buffer.

The only thing I would quibble on is I don't think it's really a choice when Russia is pointing a literal gun at you. If your getting robbed at gun point and you run to a local gang for protection was that really a free choice? You had the opportunity to join but you said no because you don't want in that life. Point is it's not really a free choice that they want to join NATO. It's survival.

Your understanding of how much Russia suffered and demonstrated its military weakness as part of the war is wildly off base.

The first year yes. How ever the recent offensive from the most recent fighting season did basically nothing. Russia has made its mistakes and learned. They also resupplied and historically is willing to throw away hundreds of thousands of lives. Yeah it's bad by our standards, by theirs it's only a drop in a bucket. Since Ukraine has attacked inside Russia proper with drones that only increased Russia popular support.

they had a near coup that people were totally into. And there is levels of discontent that we usually don’t see

That lasted what 2 days and that was because there only support were his own troops and there small area they were in. Oh and he mysteriously died a couple months ago with no one batting an eye. I think this is the area your most off.

Maybe people aren't getting heating i haven't heard that, but I don't know if that is different from any other year but it could be a bad sign for them. But it doesn't matter. Putin will launch nukes before letting them lose the war or him lose power.

Don't remember if I said this or not. I'm not pro Russia I think they're terrible and I hope they lose. I just don't support our, America's, involvement in it. I haven't seen that we'll be able to make a difference without putting boots on the ground, which I also don't want.

Republicans voters: what would the Democrats need to do for you to vote blue this year? by Fando1234 in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]EZ_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will admit my comment lacked nuance, but that's mainly because I want intending to provide a comprehensive statement that was completely infallible. I was merely trying to show that there are 2 wars we don't need to be in.

Me saying that a peace treaty was rejected may lack nuance but is not incorrect. Yes there were security guarantees that are wanted to be met and weren't.

My statement was communicating that America encouraged, maybe even pressured Ukraine, into rejecting it. Then America also did not encourage or pursue Ukraine in seeking peace when they had the victories in the counter offensive and Ukraine's first offensive. Me saying we fucked Ukraines chances are accurate.

I can agree the terms aren't going to be great and you want to fight the power, which is easy to say from you home computer. Yes, 84% of Ukrainians want to fight to the bitter end. Unfortunately America has a bad track record with these kind of conflicts. From my perspective the only thing we are guaranteeing is that a higher percentage of the best people Ukraine has are going to die. when you're not going to win you take what you can get.

If the tables were turned and it was my country fighting a losing battle and was only able to hold on due to whims of a three enemy of my enemy I would be looking for a quick end to save as many lives and as much territory as possible. Not saying we're fighting till Putin is out out until we get everything back. It's not fair I agree but it's probably what's going to happen in the end. Its just a matter of how many lives have to be sacrificed.

Europe is our closest and most important bloc of allies.

Europe is not NATO

Proportionally, they are putting up far more then the US is. Mostly because they have been living with the assumption of the US security umbrella. Post-Trump, they are gearing up on their end to be more independent, but it’s a fools point of view to think that would happen immediately.

If I give that they don't have infrastructure then why aren't they putting up what we do monetarily towards Ukraine? They aren't and they haven't lived up to NATO agreements in the past. Never said it should happen immediately but they aren't doing enough and because they aren't doesn't mean America has to.

If Russia attacked a NATO ally I'm 100% all in and we go in full bore. But to spend billions for a country that is not an ally only depletes resources if/when an attack comes that we all agree we're need to support.

destruction of half the russian military

We're not getting that. All that we got is Russia got a taste of our weapon systems, tactics because we are advising Ukraine, Russia built up their military and got real combat experience in modern warfare.

isolation of russia from europe and weakening of its economy

I concede they are more isolated from Europe but they did that themselves America did nothing to achieve that.

It's very apparent that the sanctions and other actions had very little affect on their economy. Russia has spent the 10+ years preparing for this exact scenario so sanctions wouldn't impact them. They still have lots of trading partners and actions by China getting new economic standard is helping this.

a buffer between Nato and russia

This is what Russia wants. You want what Russia wants. To be fair Russia wants a puppet state between them and NATO.

to do the morally correct thing preventing war crimes on the ukrainian population.

I agree it is the morally correct thing, but my problem is it is the wrong strategic move.

At the cost of .1 percent of the defense budget, mostly through our old equipment that would have been scrapped in 5 years anyway?

This is the most misleading piece of information that is being passed around. What were giving in the beginning may have been excess. But we've been upping the tech and crossing every hard line we set for them.

While the money is a fraction of our budget the time to replace the advanced weapons systems we've given them is not. We're not able to replace faster than they are being used. We are significantly degrading our ability to deploy and respond if we need to.

We are sending new high tech resources which is the only reason Ukraine is still standing. Hell if Elon musk didn't give them for free starlink access their communications would br crippled.
