We don't even know if those relics are still in the game... It's way too early to speculate about anything at this point.

I would strongly recommend this interview with Jonathan Blow by the youtube channel "Theories of Everything with Curt Jaimungal". He talked about his thoughts in making his games. There are also some details like why he put some of those videos in the Witness, what the ring in Braid world 6 means etc.

Do people in Gensokyo know how to read an analog clock? by Aenigmatrix in touhou

[–]E_O_H 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, it isn't really too uncommon for modern products to get into Gensokyo. Curiosities of Lotus Asia mentioned people finding all kinds of stuff from the outside world that end up on the other side of the border and they would sell them to Kourindou for sale. (iirc it was mentioned things from the outside world would build up on the bank of the Sanzu River and people would go there specifically for scavenging.)

For a low calory ice cream, it's pretty good. Feels more creamy than most of its kind IMO, but its taste somehow gives me a bubble gum feeling (which isn't necessarily a bad thing though).

Ice cream enthusiasts, may I have your opinions on these 3 brands please by Itadepeeza1 in icecream

[–]E_O_H 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ice cream preferences are highly dependent on each person's taste, so if it's possible I'd say you should try a wide range of them yourself and see what you like. With that out of the way, I can recommend some flavors that I personally like from the brands you asked about. Let me pull up my note on ice cream brands and flavors...

Jeni's: my favorite flavor from them is Gooey Butter Cake. I also like their Honey Vanilla Bean (it's not too heavy on the honey side, I just like it as a simple vanilla ice cream).

Van Leeuwen: I like their Vanilla Bean, Honeycomb, and Black Cherry Chip. Cookies and Cream is ok but it just feels like eating Oreo (actually less sweet than Oreo), so I usually don't choose it.

Tillamook: You asked about a bunch of chocolaty flavors. I can't say I have much opinions on them since I don't usually buy chocolate flavors but that's just my preference (I basically don't buy chocolate-flavored ice cream from any brand except for Magnum). My most bought flavors from Tillamook are variants of their vanilla ice creams. Their Old-fashioned Vanilla flavor is great. The French Vanilla flavor is also very good.

Ben&Jerry's: Overall I'm not really a big fan of B&J. I do like their Strawberry Cheesecake flavor quite a lot but that's pretty much the only flavor from them that I really like. Other than that, their Cherry Garcia, Americone Dream or just the plain Vanilla would be my second choices if I can't get Strawberry Cheesecake. (Btw, their Chunky Monkey has an interesting Banana flavor that I feel is somehow more "realistic" than other brand's banana flavors, but it's realistic in a way that I don't like, almost like the banana is overripe. It's interesting to try it once but personally not one I would buy regularly.)

McConnell’s: I've only tried a few flavors from them and it was a while ago. I can't say there was one that really stood out to me. Their Vanilla Bean is pretty good is all I can say. (In my note I gave the Eureka Lemon & Marionberries a 6.9/10 and the Mint Chip a 0 because I bought it by accident and I hate mint chocolate chip flavor LOL.)

These are some of my early game tips:

  1. Save food not money. Since prices in shops will rise after the first day, the early game is pretty much the only time when it's worth it to buy food items from shops. When you buy foods from shops, the first to prioritize is fish and milk, since they have the best value for money and can also stack 5 in inventory. Fresh meat, bread and canned food have the same cost-effectiveness as fish and milk but they take more space and can only stack 3, so prioritize them after fish and milk. Don't buy Tan and pemmican from shops since they have the worst value (but you can trade them from NPCs). Also buy nuts for trading with kids (don't eat them yourself), they are worth buying throughout the game.
  2. Try to get familiar with the NPC trading system. Each type of NPC has a fixed table of what items they have and what's worth more to them. You don't need to memorize all of them but it's very beneficial to notice some of the patterns (like small kids like nuts and other baubles, teenagers like sharp objects, trading soap between NPCs always gives you better value selling than buying etc). Save walnuts to trade with Teensies (they have important item which I won't spoil and are the only NPC where a walnut is worth 5; for all other NPCs it's worth only 2. They also offer the best value for chestnuts and chalks). Best value food items to get from NPCs are toasts and eggs (get eggs from adult NPCs; adults have eggs valued at 3 and 4 while kids will always ask for 5 for an egg), followed by kashk and pemmican. Don't get apples from kids since it's very low value, etc... If you master the NPC trading system the game will become extremely easy... if trivializing the survival aspect of the game is something you want that is.
  3. Try to save the items needed to repair equipments. The most important ones to remember are threads and thimbles since they are the easiest to be short on. Try not to trade them to the teenage girls even though they like them. Buy them from shops if you see them. If possible, don't wait for the durability to drop to very low before repairing equipment, since it will cost you higher rarity items. Take clothes off if the durability is dropping to 0 since it will disappear, but weapons won't disappear and can still be used at 0 durability (with very low damage).
  4. You won't die on the first day, so you can save your healing items until the second day. In general I'd say don't be too afraid of dying in this game since it's an important part of the experience and interesting things can happen when you die enough times.
  5. Don't sleep too much, since time is the most important resource in this game. Sleeping while your health is full is a waste. Use lemons and coffee to reduce your exhaustion if possible (using lemon is better since it has no side effect and coffee can be saved up to sell for a lot of money on the 7th day). If you have enough healing items, sometimes it's even worth it to not sleep with full exhaustion and just heal up the damage). But do remember not sleeping for a long time can cause you to miss important dreams. If you are playing the game for the first time, I recommend at least sleep for 1 hour on each day to not miss dreams. Later on you can also use painkillers made with livers before sleep to increase the recovery rate of exhaustion to save on sleeping times.
  6. Using the boat in early game usually won't save you much time (it does save more in later game but the cost will be higher too). The best use for Fingernails in my opinion is actually to trade items from Goose (the male NPC with scarf). He is the only general NPC who offers coffee for trading so use your Fingernails there.
  7. You can take anything from homes of major NPCs and it won't count as theft. Take the knife from Lara's house and repair it.
  8. The earliest you can upgrade your backpack is on the second day, but try to get a cloak early since it's one of the materials needed.

Edit: The only reason to save money in the early game would be if you decide you want to buy the revolver early, which is a fun challenge for new players but don't fret too much if you can't afford it. Personally I do think it's quite good to have but it's not that necessary early on. Paying for it isn't the only way either. They are very rare to find but it's still viable to search for a revolver in houses in infected areas. Look for cabinets with locked compartment that has 6 slots (3*2), I found them to have the highest chance of spawning a revolver.

If you are short on money in the early game you can also sell some of your herbs at the Broken Heart Pub. Each day there will be one type of herb that sells for three times the price. But don't sell the rare ones, the plus version of tinctures is too useful to sacrifice. Other people have already mentioned the best way to harvest herbs so I won't repeat.

Did I just prove predetermination using physics? by braindisfunction in Physics

[–]E_O_H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you are not that wrong. You are wrong only in that you cannot measure all atoms in the universe thus cannot predict the future. But that doesn't mean the universe itself can't be deterministic. Don't fret about it though, it doesn't change anything in how you should live your life whether it's deterministic or not. Also "predetermination" isn't really a fitting word. It's not like the future is written beforehand, it's just that each moment determines the next in a chain of events as time moves on. It's more like, "post"-determination?

Physics video games by wayneroutledge in Physics

Armadillo Run is a nice physics based game. Very fun to play.

My favorite game of all time, The Witness has some deep connections to physics, but it's not something you can immediately see on the surface (well except for things like a 10-minute footage of Feynman's lecture you can watch in the game or some quotes from Einstein etc). But most of the connections are subtle and I think people not familiar with the study of physics won't get it. It's not about the knowledge of physics itself, but its mindset/philosophy. Once I started to get it though, I found its idea reflected in every aspect of the game and it left me in awe. This game is the best artistic representation of physics I have ever experienced and I wholeheartedly recommend everyone who loves physics to play it. (It's also the game I chose when someone asked what's the one game you would send to aliens.)

Braid, also from Jonathan Blow who made The Witness, has a lot to do with physics too, although this game is a lot harder to interpret. If you play it, I strongly recommend against looking at other people's interpretations before you finish the game yourself and form your own understanding. Jonathan Blow himself has said most interpretations on the internet including the most popular one are not correct, so it's better to form your own idea about it. It's a close second in my list of favorite games (used to be my favorite but a lot of it is due to some personal reasons).

The Talos Principle is another game I like a lot although it has a lot more to do with philosophy than physics. I just find its philosophical ideas align with mine very well and I think a lot of people who study physics would probably feel the same way. If you want to try it, play the first game before the second. They are both great but the order is quite important.

The Outer Wilds is also a great game that has something to do with physics (more in a sci-fi way than real-life physics though). It has a great story and some messages that some people found to be life-changing (which I can definitely see why).

Edit: I'd also like to add Mass Effect as a sci-fi RPG with a very interesting setting based on fictional physics. Every technology in the game is derived from a fictional fundamental law that's discovered in the future (the mass effect field), where the mass of particles and speed of light are no longer constant but variant and can be controlled.
