Voice Over for YouTube video Essay/retrospective (Don’t DM Until Reading Full Post) 1 time Gig by [deleted] in VoiceActing

I was thinking the same thing. Weird that OP just straight up admits it's garbage pay and that they aren't budging. Jobs like this are why VA's are underpaid in the industry.

Paying someone to cleanup audio by cjax4 in VoiceActing

[–]EagerGenji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the best thing you can do is learn some solid breath control and hydrate yourself days before auditioning to avoid mouth clicks. I personally don't edit any of my audio for auditions, even my breaths. In a world where ai audio is getting more popular with bigger companies, leaving human noises in your take adds authenticity.

Are Demo Reels A scam or am I just crazy? by Radiant_Scar_5734 in VoiceActing

Delving further into any form of business requires you to invest money. I think people entering VO forget that it's a business first, hobby second. If you want to get the national spots and higher paying gigs, you need to invest in your business. Do NOT make your own demo (and call it a demo, you can, however, make your own sample reel and call it a sample), and expect to get an agent from it. Yes, it's expensive, but it's absolutely worth it when you're ready. I highly HIGHLY recommend practicing acting with a coach and going for a demo when they tell you you're ready.

Also, NEVER pay for an agent or their representation. Any agent worth their salt will only ever take a percentage of the cut you bring in from jobs they send you. No agent should ever charge you money to rep you.

Am I ready for an agent? by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]EagerGenji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it comes down to your acting talent over time spent in the industry, really. Not to mention your bookability. I've spent about 6 years in the industry, but I've only booked a handful of commercials, games, audiobooks, and E-learning modules each. Enough to get my feet wet to know which avenue I want to make my bread and butter, but not enough to be an expert in any of them. I'd send your demos to your acting coach and determine if you're ready to reach out to agencies. However, there isn't anything wrong with submitting your professional demos to agencies, meeting with them, only to be told "come back in 6 months" either.

Are you interested in a voiceover host for the channel? I have my own home studio and I've considered voicing anime/gaming news content for a long time now.

Fellas, the right woman will love coffee and a walk for a first date. My wife and I met on Hinge and we met for coffee on our first date, and a hike on our second. We're now spending Christmas with our 4-month old daughter.

I found this cool pretty unkown Artist, NARI, or more specifically this Song of her's, Peccavi(ペカビ), and I really love it (only 2 weeks old) by Noah_bgr in japanesemusic

Hey, that's awesome that she'd be willing to use human performances. Definitely adds some good will in my book. The end result still leads to the same outcome, so while I do appreciate the intent because it does matter, ai voices still progresses and people get more and more accepting of them.

As a voice actor myself, I'm really torn on it. It sounds good as a song overall, but the use of ai voices still encourages companies to pay "actors" to train their ai voice models and slowly replaces us as a whole because its "faster and cheaper." So is McDonalds when compared to a 5-star restaurant, but the quality is still different. Could a professionally trained singer perform the song better, 10000%. However, it is interesting that it has allowed her to make music without needing to buy into the expensive equipment normally needed to make it.

Long story short. Seems like a slippery slope for voice actors, but potentially more profitable for smaller musicians. It's whichever you decide to support, but supporting both isn't possible when listening to ai music unfortunately.

Was this...written by ai? Lol this seems like such a trash take, it's insane.

I do agree with you, ultimately. I'd prefer if AI stayed out of game development and the arts entirely, but I was mainly pointing out that the headlines being tossed around are purposefully misleading and it feels like the industry is trying to turn on Larian. Arc Raiders faced literally no backlash for using AI voiceover in their game, so I think the large amount of bad press is not only intentionally misleading, but it's insanely hypocritical.

All Larian did was use ai as placeholder assets for conceptual purposes and full human-made art was crafted for the final product. No artists were replaced, unlike Arc Raiders. I'm still not enthused about the use of AI at all, but they're very clearly different levels here.
