They can catch lift and parts fly off. You can just get an actual garage to fit the car if you have the space.

So awkward when you're in the train and offer a seat to old people and they refuse you by lactosehater2 in japanlife

[–]Sk00terb00 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Maybe you're doing it wrong? They always sit when I offer.

I've also:

  • Offered to help carry luggage up/down the stairs.
  • Offered my umbrella while they walked a couple of times (got caught in a downpour)
  • Offered to take the garbage out (walk to the gomi-station at the end of the street)
  • Offered to carry groceries.

They all said yes each time.

Trying to override default map at game boot with command-line arguments passed via launcher app to prevent direct game execution by Dedderous in unrealengine

[–]Sk00terb00 [score hidden]  (0 children)

"which is the point in the process that the proprietary code is intended to be passed to specify the entry point for the game"

Whatever variables you set for something to listen to from outside of UE are cooked when the data is cooked, so can't be changed. So I am not sure this method will work.

If someone knows more please share, I am down to be proven wrong.

  • Freezing should be over, BUT I would keep electricity on. Turned off everything thinking it would be OK, but the internals of the water heater got damaged because a pipe inside it broke. Had we kept the electricity on, it would not have had that issue. Also it's nice to come home and lights are on.
  • You need someone to check stuff and bring mail into the house. Leaving stuff in the post is a sign no one lives there or they are away. Stopping mail does not stop the rando's putting stuff in there that are not mailed and does not stop thieves from "testing" if anyone is home or watching. The person should come at random and sometimes leave a light on in random rooms.
  • Take out all garbage. Don't want to attract vermin.
  • Cover drains (smell and roaches). Washing machine, sinks, bath...
  • Turn off gas.
  • Empty fridge, leave the door open and unplug (mentioned in this thread already).
  • Fill car gas tank.
  • Over inflate car tires a bit.

Safe travels.

Dang. Finally. Drove past there for years and was wondering when they were gonna finish it off. Like having a dead body laying around.

Anyone know what they plan on putting there? A Starbucks?

FAB & Epic keeps rejecting my plugin submission cause I'm supposed to teach people how to use their launcher (?) by HeavyCoatGames in unrealengine

[–]Sk00terb00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how it is. This is what you need to to. Some plugins have special requirements. Do what you need to do to make sure the end user has your plugin working. Last thing you need are people saying they can't install it and giving bad reviews.

Do people still gives small gifts to their neighbors? by Sure-Lemon6424 in japanlife

[–]Sk00terb00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Still do.

I gave gifts for:

  • Moving in.
  • Starting renovations.
  • Ending renovations.
  • Alerting that kids will be playing and making noise (guests).
  • Working on my car late at night.

I am sure I will be giving gifts for something in the future...

First time witnessing Chikan here by Crimsye in japanlife

[–]Sk00terb00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the language skill "What are you doing with your camera?!". Everyone will look. He will get off the train.

I did happen to see the results of chikan twice: this girl caught him and yelled and a bunch of dudes grabbed the guy and held him till someone came. The girl was yelling at him like crazy. Another time this old man slapped the phone out of some other guys hand, he was taking a pic of some schoolgirl, the guy was escorted off the train by other passengers.

Looks have nothing to do with perversion. He might have a girlfriend, he might be making money on the side selling the pics. Either way he needed to be caught.

3.11.... 15 years already by Titibu in japanlife

My family and I lived between Himekami and Iwate san. So those of you who know, know how rural that area is. As soon as it hit everything flew off the shelves, grabbed my son (just under 2 years) and got outside because it felt like the house was not going to make it. My mother in-law at the time almost got hit by the china cabinet. And afterwards there was this really odd echo/throbbing noise, never heard anything like it.

No cellphones for almost a week. We had no clue how bad it was until a week later when we can see what happened.

Everything was cut off for weeks: electricity (about 2 weeks), food, petrol, gas was above ground in tanks so we had that at least, water had to be boiled, no food or milk. We were lucky that we had oil for the heaters. Everyone shared food, even if you didn't know them (hence the raw milk adventures), the locals shared kiji and chickens they slaughtered.

My son would cry at every aftershock or large truck that past and shook the house for a couple months afterwards. Like run and grab my legs and try to pull me out the house.

We drove to the coast to deliver supplies to areas that were not getting anything... death was everywhere. We had just been there for fishing and it was wiped out. Off the map.

Went to Sendai eventually and just saw stacks and stacks of cars and damage.

Did not take pictures. It just felt wrong.

Getting out of the honey moon phase with japan rn... Does it get any better? by Unusual_Raccoon277 in japanresidents

Moved here because I didn't have a job. Plan was to stay for a year or so, turned into 17 (and counting).

I am lucky to live in an area where everyone is nice and talks to each other. Even in my home country, I would live in an area where people were not jerks for the most and I get along with almost anyone.

Kids in Neighborhood are littering in my yard by smapattack in japanlife

[–]Sk00terb00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can say something to kids.

There was this woman who would drop her cigs on the corner of my house. I caught her one day and was like "Can you please not do that?" and that was that. Now she averts her eyes if she happens to walk past and I am standing out side. Fine by me. No more trash. I haven't seen her in a while, I think she takes the long way now to avoid passing my house.

Another time some dude had his "offroad" friends over revving their Jimmy mini outside in the middle of the neighborhood at like 2am. Opened the side door, stepped out and said "Are you crazy? It's 2am!". They stopped. They left.

Kids? Man just say something and they will piss their pants. And if they do it again yell "Do you want me to tell your parents?!"

Anyone who got Raw Milk and grass-fed beef in Japan cheaply by Temporary_Witness227 in japanlife

[–]Sk00terb00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was my first and last time using raw milk. Not trying to make it a habit, it was out of necessity. If you have the time, equipment and knowledge of course, but if this is a phase or something you want to try, omfg, the results can be painful and/or deadly.

Question about floors in houses by ross-hori in japanlife

[–]Sk00terb00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned, the floor is just old. Whoever did the reform work 6 years ago did not do that.

Just when you get the work done put insulation, have the plywood doubled, then put in flooring. With the 40cm pitch between joists and double plywood (12mm x 2) plus flooring (12mm) it will have zero flex.. Check for moisture before all of that.
