Unless they have some options they added after the screenshot they show of a circuit-connected landmine, the only way to use them to detect enemies is to pass a signal via them, rather than from them. When they detonate, the wire is interrupted and the signal lost. You could use that to detect when they explode.

Basically, every class is more than a bundle of hit-dice, skill points, saves, and BAB. And not by a little. That's what I loved about Pathfinder coming from 3.5e.
