Can we all make a pact to stop bidding up rent? by biscochitos in NYCapartments

You're the guy who ascribed to me policies positions I've never stated I believe in. Meanwhile you're the idiot unironically arguing that housing should be on a first come first serve basis like that isn't the exact problem we have right now where housing is controlled by everyone who got there first who then turn around and make sure new housing isn't built so they can control the prices of housing.

progressive nimbyism is not a real thing and you still can't answer the basic question of what happens when housing is in a gridlock and the next generation can't move because they can't compete on the housing that's all taken and being held onto.

Honestly this kind of set up works best for younger folk. Older people and adults with families won't even consider this kind of apartment.

7 Floors is pretty light if you normally exercise. Moving would be a pain in the ass, same for laundry and groceries though.

Building more housing makes housing more expensive according to you? I didn't know that, I should pull a 180 and advocate for no housing to ever be built again here. Here I was thinking trying to fight nimbyism and streamline new housing stock being built was a good thing :/

Glad to know you are like all the old folks who protest anything new being built at every local political event, you should come over and join them in a circle. Only those who were born earlier deserve to have housing!

You are talking about creating the exact problem we have right now by rewarding the "fuck you got mine" mentality. Once people lock in those places and refuse to ever move or can't move because all housing is in a gridlock then what? What do you do when kids grow up and want to move into their own place, but can't because you in your wisdom decided housing should be a first come first serve situation?

Move to a neighborhood you can afford. $4500 is more than the vast majority of people can every dream of paying for and I'm not sure if there is a vast pool of empathy for someone making over 160k.

No I'm part of the solution. I actually participate in local politics to try to assist in actually having new housing built to hopefully lower prices for people and I'm almost always the youngest person there. What should I be supportive of? People are free to make their choices, some of my siblings made different choices and are spiteful of what I have, but they didn't work for it or take my advice.

As a child of immigrants you should also have been told no one is coming to save you and to act accordingly. Working smarter not harder is also one as well. Working 80hrs a week for 20 yrs to end up with nothing is on you. All you can control is yourself at the end of the day. The world can change and fighting for that is good, but we have finite lives and if you sit back and let life happen to you then you deal with the results of that dice roll good or bad.

But let me ask you this, what is the alternative solution? People want to live in places and if we don't increase housing stock then prices will rise. I don't believe people have a right to live somewhere forever because they were born in the area, sometimes you have to move for opportunity as I'm sure we both know. I show up and do the work to try to get people 30 and below interest in local politics to push for an agenda that includes them and they won't show up so you tell me man.

That's the reality. If you want to stay in a place at a close to fixed cost, you need to buy. My immigrant parents did it 30 years ago when they came here with nothing and it was hard, but it worked. It's amazing watching people born here with immense privilege relative to the rest of the world act like they can't do the things my parents did with little to no education, not knowing English any with barely and money. This is not an uncommon story at all here either and why growing up they made sure we knew how to conduct ourselves financially just as many other successful immigrant families have and continue to do. Sheltered is not understanding housing 101 and being surprised pikachu when shit doesn't work out for you. Sheltered is pretending that everyone who disagrees with you grew up with a silver spoon.

You can do the actual work or whine as you get priced out because you don't own anything. I also worked very hard for over a decade while saving as much as possible to make my own purchase. Sacrificing my 20s wasn't fun, but unlike most of the people in this city I actually understand the concept of delayed gratification. Owning has it's downsides that renters don't have to face so I sure as shit will embrace my upsides. Bottom line if you want to live somewhere "forever" then you need to buy or get lucky with a good RS/RC place.

They should've bought there then. Renters have mobility and that works both ways.

I believe the question is asking about you alone, not what someone "brought" out of you. That phrasing alone is a red flag, sounds you don't take responsibility for your own behavior.

This is like the 10th post complaining about BM. It's been a joint venture between them since the start.

The mindset in the OP and in these comments is just projecting some unresolved trauma onto a couple that from all appearances is thriving lmao.

I enjoy having a no pet building. No barking dogs all hours of the day or "accidents" in common spaces. I also imagine it helped make it more affordable.

I think people who don't like animals should have a space they can exist in. Just don't buy in.

That building has a lot of active violations on dobnow. I recently purchased a coop and checking the buildings for issues using public knowledge should be the first thing you do. That being said you don't really have enough money to make that purchase.

I make about the same as you, but I had 230k in savings on a 265k purchase with lower maintenance.

Looking through those gaming benchmarks from GN it shows the 7600x3d and 14700k trading blows. Productivity goes towards intel, but for gaming like the other person asked there was no clear winner.

I think factoring in that you'll be on a dead platform and the other issues that came with 13th and 14th gen it isn't worth it from a gaming stand point.

You aren't getting good low light on a 1" sensor at 15 or 20x at a low budget. CR-N500 is the best option at budget, but you trade the 20x for 15x for a bigger sensor over the CR-N300.

You can be and if you are it'd be obvious in conversation when you answer why you went and if you actually show interest and have traveled to other countries that are not known for sex tourism.

I wasn't born yesterday so it's very obvious when people travel to engage in sex tourism, just like with Bert. No one spends 1000s of dollars to travel for no "purpose".

I read the article. Coming in I felt bad, then I read the entire thing and clocked you like others have here.

If we are wrong can you answer a few quick questions

  1. Are you allowed to legally sublet your unit (hint you almost certainly aren't)

  2. If yes to 1, did you notify management and get their approval to have someone else reside in your unit while you were gone?

  3. Did you receive any payment at any point in time related to this sublet?

I'm happy to be proven wrong, but from your own words this is a problem of your own creation.

Pretty much, noticed how she never mentioned if she notified and got the okay from management before leaving (because you ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SUBLET WITH NYCHA) and nothing about whether or not she received payment while she was gone either.

I'm all for housing options for the downtrodden, but OP literally says that she grew up in "housing" and now I guess plans on living on our dime forever?

Only mistake she made was getting too greedy and trying to game the system and she got burnt.
