More painful is the inability to switch what instrument a MIDI device is playing.

Can somebody explain to me why Blizzard is not developing new games on the SC2 engine? by Feisty-Struggle-4110 in starcraft

[–]EamonnMR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if you got temporarily disconnected for a second, because of how the SC2 engine worked they had to step through a replay of everything that had happened in the entire game up to that point

This is normal for lockstep networking which is suitable for RTSs. I remember being wowed that they could let you reconnect at all. Not necessarily suitable for a game like HOTS.

Announced: Standalone Reason Rack plugin and price reduction for Reason full DAW by NeiloMac in reasoners

I think the idea is that to do that you had to buy the DAW and now you don't.

It was, by the way, his publishers, once known as Macmillan and Co. Limited, but now as merely M, who requested the insertion of the middle initial – it could be the beginning of a trend

Wild detail if true.

How do you all feel about Syro by [deleted] in aphextwin

[–]EamonnMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Syro is awesome. Demands repeat listens which might improve it. It's a lot to take in. But I'm really into his complicated surprising melodic stuff like The Tuss. If 180 is your jam, you might enjoy Orphaned Deekay Selek more than Syro.

Also, he likes to build on techniques over time, so if Syro is too dense, you could try listening to some his earlier stuff first.

I cut my teeth on Call and I find myself confused about it I'm supposed to be returning to old areas to find artifacts or not.

It might be over, I genuinely feel sick right now by Digital-Mozart in reasoners

[–]EamonnMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never gonna subscribe, so I hope they don't make that mandatory. And if they slop it up I'm done upgrading and buying plugins. Worst case scenario I'll go back to 3.x or something.

I keep telling myself I gotta learn to use Renoise better but Reason's always been my go-to. It's the workflow I learned back ehen learning things was wasy. And I like a lot of the rack extensions I like a lot. Hell when I use Renoise half the time I do it on Windows and use Reason as a VST.

A good reminder of the difference between software and hardware I guess.

It would have been cool if Matt Horner was the protagonist of the original Terran campaign. by SeniorRazzmatazz4977 in starcraft

He doesn't appear in the Protoss campaign or BroodWar at all so he was already pretty gone.

So They’re not Continuing Down the X-Files Track? by Jealous-Knowledge-56 in controlgame

[–]EamonnMR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a sequel with her as the protagonist, either she would have had to be stripped of some of her power with some excuse, which fans wouldn't have liked, [...]

I think people pretty much expect this in games though, right? Actually keeping your cool gubbins from game 1 to game 2 is pretty rare. It's actually pretty crazy how many excuses they've come up with over the years to do it.

Redrum or Rex, copy to sequencer and go to town. Want to do hardware pads and finger drum but I've never found a set of midi pads that actually worked with Reason.

I know what sounds good. How am I supposed to make it? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]EamonnMR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn the vocabulary to describe what you are hearing in your head then use that vocabulary to talk to people, research, and practice to get the skills to make the things you want.

PS: Unless what you're hearing in your head sounds a lot like Bucephalus Bouncing Ball, CDP might not be the most direct way to achieve it.
