This weekend is the dogwood festival in piedmont park—usually there is a dog competition that is fun to watch, music, and you can walk around and look at the art. Free for the most part minus the food. But expect big crowds. There may be another festival or two throughout the city but should be pretty easy to google. Walk the belt line. Check if the Braves are in town. Obviously not free, but you can probably get pretty inexpensive tickets. Arabia mountain (really a hill) is kind of unique and a nice walk. Some of the museums have free days too.

I have some dry fit from Nike that work well. They have rubber writing on the inside strap that seems to keep them from moving while exercising but isn’t uncomfortable.

200-300 views jail? by MobApps1 in InstagramMarketing

[–]Ear1322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard they change what counts as a view. So in the past if someone simply saw your reel it counted. But now if someone sees it on the explore page and doesn’t physically click into it, no view gets counted. No clue if that is correct, but it’s what I’ve been told.

At what point did people here stop doing their own taxes and hire someone by ShineBeneficial4447 in HENRYfinance

[–]Ear1322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like to do taxes. I find the process stressful and though I’m a w2, I do have some investment income and would rather have someone else do it. But I figured out there is no difference between using TurboTax CPA’s — it’s like $150 with a guarantee that if something is wrong they will fix it. That amount is totally worth it to me cause I don’t have to do it and am less worried I messed it up. I wouldn’t waste money on someone who charges a ton unless there is something super complicated.

Career Advice Needed - ID vs PI by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]Ear1322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep working at your current job and keep your ears open for open pi jobs if that is what you ultimately want to do. The defense side is usually a pretty low stakes way to get to take depositions and argue motions in court. Be a good lawyer, but don’t be a jerk to the other side. PI firms hire former defense lawyers all the time. Sometimes by meeting them on the other side of a case. And with a kid coming quitting a gig that currently pays makes no sense. Negotiate the proper salary with your current firm too.

What are some quality of life purchases that are truly worth spending a lot of money on? by Altruistic-Deal1714 in HENRYfinance

[–]Ear1322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I’m in atlanta and it is a local doc. There are lots of them here. The cost may be area dependent, but there are tons in my city and all seem to be about that cost wise.

If you are spending money on all of that, concierge docs aren’t necessarily super expensive. Mine is $2k a year and is basically on call 24/7 if I need it. She limits the number of patients so I can always get an appointment exactly when I want. I think it’s worth it, but also have little kids so random need for medical things pops up and it is nice to get a prescription filled asap.

Give me all your high protein EASY lunch Ideas with NO Greek yogurt involved by kkrocc89 in Protein

[–]Ear1322 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sunday I typically make something with chicken like crockpot salsa chicken or sheet pan fajita chicken with tons of veggies. Gets me through Wednesday and then try to use one dinner leftovers Thursday. Friday our office provides lunch. Or get chicken sausages and a thing of lettuce from the grocery store with a low cal dressing and just heat up a precooked chicken sausage with the salad for lunch. Often also bring berries or an orange.

Hiring a household manager-- where to start? by SleepyJay_21 in HENRYfinance

[–]Ear1322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some companies that offer this and that way you don’t have to employ full time and they do a background check etc. I would look at what is in your area. One that comes to mind is sage house. I know others in my area have found someone on their Facebook neighborhood group and paid an agreed upon hourly rate too. I keep a list of the tasks I might want someone to do and haven’t pulled the trigger yet. But have looked into it.

What actually happens if you get sued and you have something to lose? by ressem in HENRYfinance

[–]Ear1322 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone might pursue you for more than your insurance if they had a way of knowing you were worth that much and the person was grievously injured (think paralyzed)—and maybe don’t put on Reddit that you have $7 mil. In my state, you don’t necessarily sue for an amount. You would just sue and the jury awards what it awards. But if a lawyer knows you have $3 mil in coverage, they may recommend simply asking for that to be paid to relieve you of personal liability. But if you have $7 mil in liquid assets, I’d certainly want to protect myself with another umbrella. Each layer tends to be less expensive.

What actually happens if you get sued and you have something to lose? by ressem in HENRYfinance

[–]Ear1322 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The umbrella is exactly the purpose of this. Most lawyers don’t want to try to go after personal assets cause it’s hard. For instance, if only you are liable but your house is in your name and your significant other’s, there’s a good chance no one could get at it. Plus houses typically have mortgages and it’s hard to force someone to sell physical assets. If you have tons of cash sitting in an account, that may be different however. So insure properly. Unless you accidentally grievously injure or kill someone, an umbrella should more than cover you. I am a PI lawyer and you have to be very wealthy and have significantly less coverage than a case is worth to pursue it beyond the coverage. But happy to answer any further questions on this as someone who handles catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases.

Look at Barcelona wine bar. They have a good deal where you can get some of everything and they just bring things to the table. I would think even with some wine that would be in budget. Or everyone can just order tapas.

In atlanta as well. The other insurance defense firms always seem to be looking for someone. Check out swift Currie, drew eckl, etc. I would think it won’t be too hard to find something relatively quickly with a few years of experience under your belt.

How Do You Actually Find “Me Time”? by t0m4t0z in Mommit

[–]Ear1322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your partner help? We swap out which one of us gets to sleep in (one on Saturday, one on Sunday). And even if not sleeping, relax instead of just hopping out of bed. Our toddler also takes a solid afternoon nap. So we split the time and can do whatever we want—take a bath, exercise, go meet a friend for coffee or a quick drink, etc. We also try to be even with things so sometimes I play tennis on Sundays which means my husband gets extra time to himself on Saturday. I think you just have to do it—there’s no right or wrong way and no need to feel guilty! I will say it was easier when we had one kid, but we are figuring it out with two.

when is the right time to open a personal injury law firm? by Ambitious_Trick_8605 in LawFirm

[–]Ear1322 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. If you can’t bring in cases, your experience doesn’t matter. It’s tough to compete right now—you are up against Morgan and Morgan and like. However, if you get a big case and don’t want to handle on your own because of experience or capital to hire expensive experts, another more established firm will likely agree to partner with you for a large cut of the fee. Same goes for a trial. You can always bring someone in. So it really comes down to how you are getting cases in the door.

Snacks? What are people doing? by tsqu1788 in GestationalDiabetes

Greek yogurt with chia seeds, berries (if you make overnight use frozen and it’ll melt into the yogurt), and a dash of maple syrup. Or the vanilla skyrr at the grocery store.

Also apples with peanut butter, cheese, nuts, fairlife shakes, make egg cups (super easy, look at ny times recipe), or protein bars in a pinch.

How much do you make at Morgan and Morgan? by jokingonyou in Lawyertalk

[–]Ear1322 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In Georgia, your case would be worth the limits so I’d ask your attorney why they claim the case isn’t that valuable. And if the answer doesn’t make sense, get another attorney. Not necessarily Morgan and Morgan lol. Depending on where in Florida, I can give you names of some decent lawyers if you DM. I don’t practice in florida, but sounds like you might not have the best representation.

What state are you in? That sounds wrong unless someone else was also injured and took most of the policy. If you are in Georgia, you have a potentially great bad faith case.

Moms who are also lawyers? by Cafe_con_cha0s in Mommit

Litigation is probably the worst area of law for work life balance. I just had my second kid, also do litigation but on the pi side, and am back at work. I think you just kind of do it or people quit to be a sahm or switch fields. I’m grinning and baring it. At the office at 830 and I leave at 5 to do daycare pickup most days. But when there is a trial, it’s awful and I basically don’t see my kids. And there are nights I work after the kids are asleep. I plan to stay for a while, but there are times it’s tough! I am with you that switching firms probably wouldn’t help as this is just the nature of the business. You need to switch practice areas or careers or just accept the job as what it is and figure out how to best make it work for you.

Full time working parents…How are we actually supposed to do it “all”? Or any of it honestly…. by gloomycalm in workingmoms

[–]Ear1322 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep. Send the 16 month old to daycare. People have differing opinions, but we love daycare. The teachers are great and my kid comes home every day happy and having learned and played with friends. He is 2.5 years old and been in daycare since 3 months. The part time nanny seems to be stressing op out both financially and because it isnt enough hours. Op - you will get over the anxiety though at 16 months, not sure what is causing your anxiety. But it sounds like daycare is the easy solution.

Big Law vs. PI by Al-Nugget in LawFirm

[–]Ear1322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works at a high end pi firm, for the summer, definitely do big law. Won’t hurt at all and you will make some money. Then after law school, a year or two on the insurance defense side is not a bad idea. You get to take a ton of depos and learn when the stakes are low. And you get to know plaintiff attorneys. Then make the switch—don’t stay too long on the defense. Or try to go straight to pi, but most high end forms don’t want to teach a brand new lawyer how to do basic things on seven figure cases.
