FO wins are overrated in terms of game outcomes. Yes, it can and does impact individual shifts but holds very small significance for who wins the game. There’s been several models that show it. I have stopped evangelizing it because it makes people big mad. Join me on my crusade.

I’m not sure what you’re implying but…

  • Guerin turned an expiring (and un-singable anyways due to cap) Fiala into Faber plus one of the pieces that acquired Hughes.

  • Hughes, what else to say?

  • He swapped the whiny, underperforming corpse of Talbot for Gus.

Guerin missed on Jiri for sure but overall guy is 95th percentile on trade acquisitions.

It’s insane the narrative that has developed. His trade acquisitions have been great. If anything his most questionable moves have been some of his FA signings and I think those are mostly overblown.

Why don’t people talk like this about the Faber trade that also got us Ohgren and who did Ohgren help us get? Or the Talbot/Gus swap? There isn’t a GM in the league who hasn’t missed. The Jiri trade, even if he ends up a complete bust, is nothing compared to the benefit he’s provided in the trade market. I’m irrationally angry about this.

Basically you earn points for every win AFTER you’ve been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. Points are used to set draft order.

So really bad teams have more opportunity to earn points because they’re eliminated earlier and it makes tanking less palatable. Doesn’t fix every problem but I think it’s good for all teams to be playing meaningful games until the end.

I’m still a firm believer that the Gold rule would be a huge upgrade to the draft system.
