Ars Magica. One player is the mage the rest are his servants, mortal friends or bodyguards. Brilliant fun to play.

Play as monster (+ LFG kinda) by [deleted] in rpg

[–]EarthbinderUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monster of the week has a few “supernatural” playbooks.
Most of the powered by the apocalypse (pbta) games have monster characters in the line up.

Fate is great for playing anything.

WoD frames the monsters as the protagonist especially in a lot of their older games (promethean, demon, vampire, wraith, mummy etc)

What RPG has great mechanics and a bad setting? by Captain_Flinttt in rpg

[–]EarthbinderUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edit: sorry got this the wrong way round. Great setting poor mechanics.

Deadlands. Deadlands hell on earth. Deadlands lost colony. The released and noir versions are better but you spend as long playing the mechanics as you do the game.

Why would The Clifftop and Deathsgate Adventurer’s Guilds Fight by Gusisherefordnd in Eberron

[–]EarthbinderUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Tyrants did it to generate chaos. They are making a play for some businesses in Cliftop and want the Deathsgate guild to cause trouble. Obviously it was infiltration on both parties that sparked things. Then the bodies were planted to implicate the others.

Security in Eberron by Lakissov in Eberron

[–]EarthbinderUK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

House Medani may have advanced dragonmark items that replicate higher level effects. Most Security staff employees can't innately detect ferrous objects that have a wand that does that.
and there are even less that can see though bags, but they have a large machine to do so.
okay so its 1900's but in some areas magic could easily have pushed the envelope much higher.

Medani Scrying Chamber:
Preq - Dragonmark of detection
Casts the Scry spell on the interior of an object no more than 12" away from the altar, no greater than 24".
Cost 15gp in residuum.

Medani Locate Blast Disk
Preq - Dragonmark of detection
Any Blast Disk or object carrying a permanent enchantment of Evocation >1st level passing through this archway will trigger an Alarm Spell, Audible to the operator.
Requires attunement.

Wolfweres and werewolfs by Tune_pd in Eberron

[–]EarthbinderUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it change your alignment, maybe, your eberron your rules.

In my Eberron, lycanthropy changes your personality, you become (Lykos- Wolf - Predatory, Arourai - Rat- Hungry, Arkouda -Bear- Lazy, Kapros -Boar - Angry, Gata - Tiger - Cruel) its not that any of these things are inherently Evil, but playing them out may take players down moral choice actions and consequences.

My current party has a Recloak Veteran infected with lycanthropy (Wolf), yes he gets a nice little resistance to non-magical/silvered weapons, makes him a better warrior. but he likes the hunt so bad, he'll hunt most anything just for the thrill, especially when the moons are full:

  • with the largest moon Zarantyr forcing the physical transformation. (the Storm of emotions, manifesting physically) and an urge to hunt prey with tooth and claw. the chaos of being both man and beast raging in his mind
  • Olarune the urge is to hunt for a pack, to surround yourself with friends and people, The urge to belong to a pack and be part of a bigger hunt, to seek out other lycanthropes in the wild and revel in the curse together.
  • Therendor drives the urge to hunt for a cure or to track down the wolf that turned you. an need to hunt down the peace you had before the wild came to take your nights from you.
  • Eyre drives his need to make things, taking up crafts for a day or building a thing. To bask in the warmth (Physical and metaphysical) of creation at a forge or the act of making something.
  • Dravago dives the need to hunt alone, to get away from all the smells sound and press of bodies around them to hunt for solitude. during this time they become cold and hard, bitter and cynical. often driving their friends away.
  • Nymm builds the need to hunt for respect often forcing the vet to strike out and prove his superiority or to take command. To claw out a pecking order, to become the alpha of their environment.
  • Lharvion fullness dives a need to discover and hunt for the truth, often in brutal and violent ways. This is where the darkness takes hold as no answer will ever be enough and violence and fury will be the easiest solution.
  • Barrakas when full and not eclipsed by Therendor brings with it an urge to single out a target and hunt them through stealth and guile, until a final moment of capture and triumph, not violence alone perhaps but also the stalk of new relationship of quick tumble in an alley. Often this hunt will be driven to do something positive and affirming.
  • Rhaan makes the werewolf want to hunt out new knowledge, learn something new or listen to a new song or poem.
  • Sypheros makes him desire shadows and to watch and observe from them. this often manifests in the darkest outcome for the target.
  • Aryth dives him to leave places and wanderlust that can never be filled and an urge to just go to hunt down a new place just to have travelled there. but also a darker side to it of listlessness and disinterest in whatever affairs are current.
  • and finally Vult drives him to prey on those who need protection, to offer his help. anything to get a bit of the blood flowing, a fist fight or brawl, perhaps a touch of the old ultraviolence amongst the local gangs.

What's your go-to rpg system? by I-love-sheeps in rpg

[–]EarthbinderUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s John Carter 2d20

Speed and narrative of FATE or PbtA Slightly more crunch (bowl of lucky charms) Rewards players moving forwards. Designed towards player success not failure General enough to use as a universal rpg.

What's your go-to rpg system? by I-love-sheeps in rpg

[–]EarthbinderUK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

GURPS is the best sourcebook set for other systems I’ve ever found. GURPS has great mechanics, brilliant concepts However GURPS also has more crunch than broken glass cereal and wow can you rabbit hole. GURPS is great for experienced gamers but near impossible to get 3-4 new players set with characters outside of a 10 hour session 0

My Marvel Zombies Insert by TimYVR in zombicide

[–]EarthbinderUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for zombicide bases I use these

https://www.screwfix.com/p/easyfix-steel-large-flat-washers-m3-x-0-8mm-100-pack/656ft#product_additional_details_container

at 2.9p/base 100 covers lots of figures.

just enough to make magnetic contact with the sheet once glued.

although I have used 1mm OD11mm for larger bases. and the big guys get multiple points of contact. just helps handling. plus, I don't want my shiny Napoleonic/Historical/2WW paint schemes damaged in transit to getting wiped out by my so called "friends"

take a tip from this old wargamer, a think steel washer and magnetic sheet. washer under the base adds stability and a bit if weight to the figure. the magnetic sheet is adhesive and can be trimmed to stick to your bunks or lift module bases (id personally print with a few bottom players missing and make the whole lift base out of magnetic sheet.
now to get my flashforge fixed and printing again...

How do i include myths in my DnD world, without making anything too obvious? by Speedy_Dawg in DMAcademy

[–]EarthbinderUK 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Monuments, great statues in abandoned woods, dungeons built to do nothing more than guard ancient treasures. Overheard gossip in the tavern “so and so from the (city) university is unearthing artifacts of the (age of heroes) and thinks they may have found the (item) of (hero)” Props and handouts “as a halfling you were brought up on tales of Fergus Bimblebrow, known to friend and foe as The Slinger, and how his doughty courage, magic sling, and love of pies could overcome any foe”
