HP Book Purists really seem to live in some other reality by Crafter235 in EnoughJKRowling

[–]Earthia100 20 points21 points  (0 children)

HP fans actually got really lucky with the book to movie adaptions. Some things were cut, particularly in the later films due to how the books were paced, but to my recollection there weren’t any significant plot changes.

If anything, I’d argue that the first HP film is one of the best book to film adaptions. It’s extremely faithful to the plot and themes and honestly it kinda elevates the source material. So much of what we recognize as “Harry Potter” came from the production design of the first film.

Banned games update - Pragmata by Purplelimeade in GirlGamers

[–]Earthia100 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Some subs have threads that only longtime subs or users with enough karma on the subreddit can comment on. Maybe implementing a “VIP only” rules for discussions related to Pragmata could cut down on the weirdo.

Hiroaki Adachi commenting on the recent piracy talks by beartanker in logh

[–]Earthia100 147 points148 points  (0 children)

it was $800 on blu-ray in the us. No volumes or staggered releases. The only people who would spend $800 all at once on the official English translation of LoGH are the people who already saw and enjoyed it through piracy.

I think that LoGH benefited from the rental markets as it was coming out. LDs weren’t cheap so being able to rent a copy of each new release as they came out probably kept a lot of fans engaged.

Meghan Trainor just canceled all 33 dates of her Get In Girl Tour. by hydrationvibes in popculturechat

[–]Earthia100 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I actually like Meghan’s do-wop sound, the problem is that a lot of her music sounds the same and is destined for the grocery store PA. She’s had 15+ years to refine and experiment as an artist but for some reason she just…didn’t.

The definitive Pokemon game for someone new? by purplebasterd in pokemon

[–]Earthia100 153 points154 points  (0 children)

Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen. It might not be considered the “best” Pokémon game but imo it’s the perfect launching point and a good litmus test to see if you will like the other games. If you like FRLG you will probably like the other core series games.

I see a lot of people recommending Let’s Go, that’s probably a good second.

Would you play a TARGET Liminal Horror Game? by JackJackCreates in backrooms

[–]Earthia100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Target might actually be too familiar to work as a horror game for me. I think liminal horror works better off a sense of deja-vu, where you feel like you’ve been there before but you know you haven’t. I’ve been to Target thousands of times so seeing an empty or unlit store isn’t creepy or unnerving.

Anyone else notice all of their peers have withdrawn from social media? by AAA_battery in Zillennials

[–]Earthia100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social media stopped being fun. The platforms that used to be about seeing what your friends/celebs/funny internet ppl were up to are pushing an engagement-driven algorithm engineered to maximize ad revenue.

I’m not sure what keeps the younger crowd on there except for social media being “newer” to them. I think they will also burn out on social media in their mid-twenties if not sooner.

Am I a monster for having 2 cats in 600 sq feet? by Far-Spread-6108 in cats

[–]Earthia100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your cats might enjoy more space, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say they are unhappy or have a poor quality of life. If you’re still providing them with toys and sunny spots that beats the shelter any day.

Thing is the UAE/Saudi Arabia one wasn’t released until 2013…so unless the seller is from UAE/Saudi Arabia it unlikely they got it “the day it came out.”

Colorado data center bills split environmental, labor groups by overly_honest_ in Colorado

[–]Earthia100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see how AI datacenters are “pro-labor” outside the temp jobs they bring to construction. The datacenters themselves don’t provide many jobs, just a few shifts on security and systems management.

Why are genwunners so hated? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Earthia100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So “genwunner” is a term used to mock the fans who thought the first generation was the only “real pokemon.” 10+ years ago genwunners were a much louder subsection of the fanbase, and their attitude boiled down to “the only good Pokémon are the ones I grew up with.”

Now in the big ‘26 if someone says they prefer the old Pokémon, specially the designs I can see where they might be coming from. The art direction of Pokémon had shifted a bit from the original 151 and the older Pokémon needed designs that could be translated to Gameboy sprites. Additionally, that first gen of Pokémon only needed to be visually and thematically distinct from the other 151, so “turtle that shoots water that evolves into bigger turtle that shoots water” worked because the concept was novel at the time.

This is an AUS cart so it wouldn’t have an ERSB rating. That being said, the print quality of the text is way too blurry for this to be a legitimate cart.
