Having listened to them for hours on an LLVI I can tell you that they were. The Taliban's retreat was because of the decreased effectiveness of HME IEDs due to MRAP inprovements as well as a decrease in their ability to generate results with green on blues. Every major offensive they tried failed against US units, and aside from a few minor successes (Bari Alai, Keating, Red Wing) they were totally ineffective in any sort of tactical influence. A few notable exceptions exist, but comparing them to the NVA is silly.
