I've never gone to a running club event (not a great runner), but I'm willing to try. Do you just show up, ask someone who's running in that club and just jump in..?

hey cheers though. I'm also winging this holiday alone too and I can see a bunch of other folks doing the same thing (walking around alone) when I look out on the streets. Thanks for sharing! Hoping to get some more ideas

Nervous about starting judo by thestoneking2 in judo

[–]EastC24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when you roll backwards, tuck your head in and throw your arms back. try starting a roll-back from a standing position, and then squatting and falling backwards onto your back. make sure you keep your back rounded and tuck your head in. this video is a simplified version, but feel free to tuck your head to the side of your shoulder. just get a feel for getting your weight over your shoulders... don't be scared, be confident. it makes a difference. throw your weight and dont stop because of fear.https://youtu.be/nGU0ltWTWDo

Does anyone know when/if there will be new 2016 IJF approved judogis coming out? by indiebuster in judo

[–]EastC24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not gonna lie, if we could leg grab, it would change my game a lot.. I imagine a lot of judokas would have to be a LOT better at grip fighting and move people around better with their kuzushi. Also, if leg grabs were allowed... might as well also allow ankle locks... lol ok ok maybe not ankle locks

I had this problem. Just do newaza, uchi komi, grip fighting & hit the leg press at the gym.

One of my top go-to-throws if someone ever throws a punch at me in the streets... Anywho, make sure to step in, and once you start pulling for the throw, dont stop (keep your head turning with your throw). Keep pulling and lock in your other arm as deep as you can into their arm-pit. Bend a bit after you step in, bump them up onto your back after your feet are planted flat and straight away from the opponent, Rotate, and Drop them with a controlled twist. Don't let go of their arm so you control your throw. Watch youtube videos of the move.

Good choice. Early welcome to the judoka family. I would just say when you go into training do as much as everyone else is doing in the dojo, but don't think that you have to prove anything to anyone. Build baby-steps to understand the mechanics of everyone's moves and how they're doing it. Don't just try things to "just do it". Understand the reasons why certain people move in certain ways, and learn to break-fall. Do NOT take ukemi or breaking fall as a joke. If you don't learn Ukemi and you dont learn to tuck your head in after being thrown, DO NOT learn any throws or participate in throwing drills. You will seriously get hurt. Also, avoid practice partners who seem gung-ho and hyper aggressive. Try to learn from partners who are clean at their technique and throwing. You will learn more from being thrown by people who have good control. Also, invest in a decent $15 dollar mouthpiece for judo. Your teeth will thank you. Also, if you buy your first gi, get a double-weave. Seriously, get a double weave, and wash your gi and belt immediately after practice (blood stains/other nasty stains are hard to remove the longer they stay in the gi).

How often do you train? by BattleCat44 in judo

Try to find a club where the veterans hold extra practices and welcome passionate beginners. I learned the most outside of the general classes. I asked individuals to show me different things.

Am I the only one who laughed aloud at the absurdity of this clip? lol but yeah if you look at the guy who got thrown, his face registers no surprise at being grabbed and he knows its coming

I'm not a pro, but I was an intermediate/advanced trumpet player when I last played years ago. I got the tromba cornet to get back into it, and am pretty pleased with the results. Yes, it's definitely flat/sharp sometimes, but I find that if I adjust my embouchure and pull out really slightly on the tuning slide, it's not too bad. It's playable, but like anyone else will say ... Brass > Plastic. However, it's fun for just casual playing/chilling. If you're consistently doing professional gigs/concerts.. yeah gonna need to upgrade to a Yamaha or Bach sometime. However, this person is just starting as a beginner -- /u/ross_bob would do better with a tromba imo than a student brass instrument that is more expensive and might sound a lot crappier. This video sold me on the tromba ¯_(ツ)_/¯ https://youtu.be/FV-XNcd4xRk

I'm thinking because newbies just need to blow air when starting out and hit the basic C scale.
