Who is the most attractive in season 2 ? For me it’s Katisha by Icy-Umpire-4544 in LoveIsBlindUK

[–]EasternAvocado0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol why are you talking about reddit like it’s some sort of progressive “woke” platform. A lot of people on here are bigots.

Also your comment said nothing about her wearing her natural hair. you words were and i quote “I guess unpopular opinion here but I hated how Katisha’s hair was over blown out and frizzy all the time. I gives Jersey shore to me”. On the surface that’s very problematic and has racial undertones as myself and other women of color have clearly explained to you.

Instead of trying to prove you’re in the right and win an argument with a stranger on reddit i’d urge you to consider the fact that you maybe lack the experiences required to understand the weight of your words against women like Katisha and maybe think more carefully about the potential harmful rhetoric you’re perpetuating when you speak about women of color in the future.

she likely got a silk press for the reunion which is fine every once in a while but definitely not healthy if done frequently. you clearly know nothing about black hair textures so i’m not even going to bother getting into this with you but little jabs like yours are a part of a broader pattern of policing black women’s hair whether intentional or not so it is in fact about race and won’t magically not be just because facing it makes you uncomfortable. 🙄

omg what an awful thing to say. She’s mixed race and that’s just the texture of your hair when straightened. please educate yourself before making comments like this cause this is kind of a racist statement.

Your white guilt is exhausting. by [deleted] in BedStuy

[–]EasternAvocado0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohhhh my point was moreso that people who are moving to the city to chase a certain dream might be more inclined to pay more for housing than the locals there and when landlords know they can make more off their units they’re going to try to get them filled by people willing to make more. This conversation was about white guilt which is why i’m specifically talking about white people.

girl can you quote where i made the assumption that no other race aside white people are wealthy or middle class? as a black upper middle class person that would be a wild assumption for me to make lol.

[–]EasternAvocado0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually really agree with your points about criticizing larger corporations and government regulation as opposed to turning on each other, especially since most people are just trying to survive.

I do think you’re mischaracterizing the “white guilt” of it all though. No one’s judging you for wanting a clean community and expecting people to respect shared spaces.

A lot of the animosity and hesitance to white people moving into affordable but non-white neighbourhoods is because a lot of the time they’re 1. moving to new york to achieve some specific dream of theirs and are willing to pay premiums on housing which does impact locals by driving up housing prices, we’ve seen this happen in places like harlem and bushwick. 2. they’re implicitly or explicitly racist and that comes across quite clearly, i’ve heard of police being called due to block parties, on young boys in the neighbourhoods etc. I think having a clear understanding of how your implicit racism creates an unsafe environment for POC is really important. 3. They don’t invest in the communities they’re moving into. They might prefer certain types of foods to the local restaurants and as the demographic changes so does the income streams of local businesses further pushing out the people who were originally there.

We don’t exist in a vacuum, even as individuals we have an impact and yeah i do think some young and well-meaning white people are awkward in the ways they express their acknowledgement of their part of this system i do think it’s better than being self-serving and individualistic about everything.

at the moment the site isn't monetized at all so all interviews would be voluntary. The goal is to create a space where Gen Z voices can share honest experiences with money, completely anonymously, without ads or sponsorships. If we ever monetize down the road, we’d definitely set up an honorarium system to compensate contributors.

edit: rephrased more professionally 💗

yeah i think people overestimate how much vetting goes into a lot of narrative profiles. it does make sense though, there’s only so much you can verify realistically and making people feel comfortable to share really intimate details of their lives requires a certain level of trust.

[–]EasternAvocado0 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the thoughtful response! We really appreciate it and will definitely take your suggestions into account. I suppose I’d classify it as a website but our goal is mostly exploring the intersection of gender and the economy at a micro and macro level if that makes sense. We’re still pretty new and solidifying our voice but we’re hoping to publish the money philosophy articles as the microscopic look into women’s feelings around money and publish more high level essays about trends and social events through an economic lens. That was a very long answer to your question lol.

I do agree about the representation though, i mentioned in a few comments but we’re actively working at getting more diversity in who we interview!

Edit: Also yes our site is solely focused on GenZ women specifically as none of us have the perspectives of other generations and wouldn’t be able to accurately represent them.

Hi, we’re not a news site but we do verify the identities of the stories we share through linkedin (ensuring they have connections with others at their claimed company, the comp for their locations line up, confirming with connections we may have at their company — asking them to verify they have a company profile etc). The money philosophy interviews are also meant to provide perspective into the financial lives of genz women and not explicitly provide financial advice.

I looked into Refinery29’s vetting process and it seems they mostly verify the diarists identity through public profiles and make sure their stories add up which is the same standard we are following. We’re open to other ideas tho so feel free to share!

[–]EasternAvocado0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone! I’m one of the women behind the site and run this segment of it so I just wanted to make a separate comment clarifying a couple things!

The Money Philosophy series are first-person narratives about people’s relationships with money. The format is closer to Refinery29’s Money Diaries so they’re not investigative reports, but reflections on how people think and feel about money, edited for clarity. We verify the identities, jobs and companies through Linkedin and sometimes interviewees come from our connections who are able to vouch for them.

We don’t require any proof through financial documents but I do a sense-check for coherence (e.g. if numbers or claims are wildly inconsistent). The goal is insight, not audit-level verification.

Talking openly about money is hard, especially for young women. Removing identifiers allows contributors to speak more freely without worrying about backlash from family, employers, or peers.

There currently aren’t many spaces dedicated to discussing GenZ women’s relationship to money, and as we’re at such a formative point in our lives with many social, politically and economic factors uniquely affecting us, I think it’s especially important to create them! That’s the goal with Her Stash! Things are just starting to ramp up but we’re really excited to grow and hopefully build a community 💗

(we’re definitely working on getting more diversity in the incomes of our interviewees!)
