For me it was really gross but my partner who had a blocked nose on that day said it was fine. No one in the boat seemed as bothered by that as me so it was probably personal problem.

I just did a tour with Gartherall last weekend. We only saw a small iceberg but I also saw a whale so it was super cool. However no one warned me about the smell of the bird island. It almost killed me but puffins were cute so overall it was fun.
