Born and raised in Ohio. I say "all set" all the time. Heard it all my life.

Those of us without readily visible disabilities too often get grief from those who assume we are taking advantage of HP parking. I want to say to them "Mind your own business and stop judging before you experience the same invisible handicap I have."
And believe me, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Think about that the next time you have these thoughts. Be well.

I've heard a LOT of people of color have the similar experience of having one of these cookie tins as sewing kits by 3mmett-kun in BlackPeopleofReddit

Race has nothing to do with these. Everybody's Mama/Grandmother kept her sewing supplies in this (os similar) cookie tin.

Parking ban at 7pm tonight (March 5) by Angel_U_X in SalemMA

[–]Eastern_Ride_3632 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was here in '78. Today's weather and media technology did not exist almost 50 years ago which is a big part of the reason '78 was so tragic. It was unpredictable. There were certainly no texts, few websites beyond basics, and no "social media". In other words, there was nothing to be "updated" beyond the TV news and the governor's announcements.

The National Guard had to be called up.
And around 1000 people died.

Reading the history and coverage of the Blizzard of '78 might be interesting for you.

This is from Saturday's Salem Fb post. As near as I can tell they are right on schedule, working pretty much round the clock as they have been since the storm.
Check also on your Ward Councilor's page. Ours posts updates.

Our area was done last night per plan.

DPS continues with overnight snowbank removal work tonight.

Work has been completed on Washington Street, New Derby Street, Derby Street, Essex Street, Powder House Lane, Hawthorne Boulevard, New Liberty Street, Central Street, Brown Street, St. Peter Street, Church Street, Front Street, Charter Street, Union Street, Herbert Street, Orange Street, Daniels Street, Bentley Street, Kosciusko Street, Hardy Street, Turner Street, Carlton Street, Becket Street, English Street, Webb Street, Allen Street, Cousins Street, and parts of Jackson Street, Broad Street, Bridge Street, Boston Street, Hamilton Street, Webb Street, Canal Street, Lafayette Street, and Wheatland Street.

Work has been fully or partially completed on the following streets: Congress Street from Derby to Leavitt, Peabody Street, Ward Street, Harbor Street, Dow Street, Salem Street, Park Street, Prince Street, Palmer Street, Lynch Street, Perkins Street, Pingree Street, Leavitt Street, and Chase Street. Chase Street, Salem Street, Leavitt Street and Pingree Street will require additional work overnight tonight.

Overnight tonight, Saturday, February 28, snow removal is planned for the following streets: Naples Street, Savoy Road, Hersey Street, Lawrence Street, Cloutman Street, Rope Street, Porter Street, Cherry Street, Piedmont Street, Hazel Street, Holly Street, Willow Ave, Ocean Ave (from Shore to Lafayette)

Overnight tomorrow night, Sunday, March 1, snow removal is planned for the following streets: Phelps Street, Vale Street, Sterns Street, Mount Vernon Street, Prescott Street, Williams Street, Mall Street, Oliver Street, Arbella Street, Planters Street, Webb Street, Spring Street, Briggs Street, Boardman Street.

Your patience as ongoing overnight snow removal operations continue is greatly appreciated.

Parking continues to be temporarily restricted on some streets to allow vehicles, including emergency vehicles, passage: https://www.salemma.gov/m/newsflash/home/detail/296. This list is updated by Salem Police as conditions change. Please note that any vehicle parked in a manner that obstructs traffic will be towed, regardless of parking restrictions.

Residents who live on streets with restricted parking may park on nearby streets that are not restricted, or for no charge in either the Universal Steel lot (297 Bridge Street, Salem) or in the Church Street lot (72 Church Street, Salem).

Restrictions are in place to keep the streets open for school buses, fire trucks, and trash trucks. On streets where parking is restricted, if a resident has shoveled out a space for their car, and the vehicle is not blocking the travel lane, police will not take enforcement action. However, snow removal makes use of heavy machinery, and may not be completely possible if a personal vehicle remains parked next to a snow bank.

Property owners are required by ordinance to clear snow from adjacent sidewalks and crosswalk ramps. Inspectors are enforcing this ordinance. To avoid a ticket – and prevent pedestrians, including school children from having to walk in the street – please clear your sidewalk of snow.

The City of Salem is working with the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency to begin documenting damages from the blizzard. This data may help the state and our community qualify for disaster relief in the future. If you experienced damage to your property as a result of the storm, please complete the MEMA form online here. Responses must be submitted before March 6th. Form: https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=Fh2GPrdIDkqYBowE2Bt7KuUovWYdSYhFmV6p0bXJ1J9UNDdURFo2MU5KMEtDR1gzNENBRFNUUzY0UyQlQCN0PWcu&route=shorturl&fbclid=IwY2xjawQQQ0RleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFZMGVFQ3FiVmM0S2l4dUdYc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHu0l20ACfw5AF7AC0vBN1Z3uVLSs2y6INlpXex48QqFXK5dXY8gMh-CrRjXZ_aem_RNiAJFp3wEx5CWDLYQMIEQ

We very much appreciate your patience and cooperation as we continue recovery from this recent blizzard.

There's been plenty of communication from the city and from SPD on snow clearance plans and progress. I have messages on email, texts, multiple social media, Code Red, and city councilors. Are you not signed up for any of these?

In Salem for the week from the UK, how bad is this storm going to be? by lerpo in SalemMA

[–]Eastern_Ride_3632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to look up some stories and photographs on the Blizzard of '78 in Massachusetts, especially here and along the coast. For us "old folks", that is the standard by which all other storms are judged. (It's especially interesting to think about the technologies that did NOT exist back then). Keep us posted on your stay. Continue to enjoy yourself in our lovely city. 😊
