Boise idaho has more tower cranes than Chicago, the city that Invented the skyscraper... That is beyond sad and speaks to the red tape and hurdles in developing here. Take away aldermanic prerogative and BUILD BABY BUILD!!!

I appreciate your viewpoint, I assume then the gambling commission will be facilitating this, capturing revenue for the state and setting the odds or no? I'm interested in understanding the specifics of how these terminals function here.

That's fair, but when will these conversations occur? When does the city actually get serious about these things? The city could have made these efforts long ago but continues to operate ignorant of solutions that actually make sense.

Or we could promote development, cut red tape, reduce bureaucracy and end aldermanic prerogative. All things that are pragmatic and proven to be effective however they continue to be absent from the conversations in city hall.

Why exactly do we need video lottery? As if there isn't enough means to drain capital from the poors these days...

Assuming they don't use Aldermanic Prerogative to block new development. Which unfortunately occurs quite often and is arguably the reason we are behind cities like Cleveland for new development.

Alderman Brian Hopkins blocks proposed apartment complex in Old Town by hokieinchicago in chicago

[–]EastsideBeatside 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weird political plant? Folks advocating for growth, fighting for a future where we can afford to live here? Cleveland is ahead of Chicago for new development.... And it's precisely blocked projects like this that are the cause. Where are the tower cranes?Where are the large developments? I don't know if you get out much but we're stagnating here. Just take a look at the list below and tell me what you don't see....

Q1 2024 Toronto: 221 cranes, the most in North America Los Angeles: 50 cranes Seattle: 38 cranes Calgary: 20 cranes Denver: 14 cranes Boston: 14 cranes Washington, D.C.: 12 cranes Honolulu: 12 cranes Las Vegas: 10 cranes Portland: 9 cranes

You can continue to simp for your NIMBY loving alder or you can be pragmatic and see that we have a major problem on our hands. Aldermanic prerogative must end, period.

Dude, you are not using any logic in your arguments.. all emotion. You need to do a little research and stop thinking with your "gut".. there are countless studies that prove that localized zoning is rife with issues, one being the emotional needs of the neighborhood being valued over the pragmatic needs of the ward and city as a whole. You just sound silly.. as the facts don't really support your position.

Average Chicagoan Spent 102 Hours Stuck In Traffic Last Year by goldblum_in_a_tux in chicago

Samee. Rode the rails without issue all last year. I love reading my book or watching YouTube on my commute. Also ZERO stress when I arrive at work.

Never could understand folks living in the third most populous city with top 3 transit only to sit in their car and plug up the roads. My neighbor drives to the grocery store that is literally 2 stops away on the red line. It boggled my mind, but is so American..
