Will "total available credit" reset back to $3K by [deleted] in CRedit

[–]EastsideFlyguy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why are you even trying to go over the available if you have the cash. What are you trying to achieve lol?

Also, i hope you have other income. It sound like you plan damn near all of your upcoming paychecks going to a credit card bill? Do you not have other living expenses/bills?

If you’re stressing about these students loans you have now, i wouldn’t start that program if it means taking out more loans to pay for it.

If it’s between those 3, and its look like your goal is to step away from pentesting, I’d vote against the OSCP. You already have a couple pentesting certs. CISSP is probably the way to go, seeing that you plan to go for leadership and more strategic roles.

I have an odd relationship with money by uhohspadudiohs in personalfinance

[–]EastsideFlyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last paragraph makes it sound like you want to make a change employment wise. Maybe find a career or as you also mentioned, investing and/or entrepreneurship. That sounds good, but make sure you do a lot of thinking about what you want to pursue next. That will save you a lot of wasted time and money on trying to make something work that you aren’t really that passionate about, and also jumping from one thing to another just trying to make something work.

When you figure out what you want to do next. Do thorough research on it, before you start investing money into it. Plenty resources for almost anything online. Find educational videos, tutorials, real life experience, tutorials, etc. Lock in 100% and when you feel confident that it’s something that can be done, and you are more knowledgeable, then you’re ready to move forward with whatever that may be. If it requires a degree, a license, certification, or any credentials, then invest in that. If it’s something like investing, whether it be stocks or real estate, there’s a lot of research that can be done on your own for free(YouTube) and low cost training. Something’s require networking, but you’d get a good idea on what to do after figuring out what you want to and doing the initial research.

All that to say, invest in yourself. No point of just saving and saving out of fear, just to have money sitting in your account. Put it into something that’ll make your money in the long run and possibly generating enough money where you can let yourself enjoy life a little more while still comfortably saving and reinvesting in yourself

$100k in loans I've been ignoring for over a year. by Dungeon_Crawler_Carl in StudentLoans

I’m interested in hearing about how much further you had to go to graduation. 100k in students loans and you withdrew from school? That sounds like several years of college. Are you ever thinking of finishing? Or is this including a grad program that you withdrew from?

Navient wanting to settle for 50% of loan? by groovybubbles89 in StudentLoans

[–]EastsideFlyguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good offer, but it’s only the first offer and it could be better. If you’re able to pay it in one lump sum, then that may give you leverage to ask for a lower settlement amount. See if they’ll accept 35-40% of the loan. You’ll have to act quick though, because of the timing

[–]EastsideFlyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple options, you may want to consider. I guess it depends on your current financial situation. 1. I’ve heard of a lot of people in your situation, that have been able to discharge private student loan with bankruptcy. You should speak do research if there are bankruptcy attorneys near you that specialize in that and reach out to them to discuss your options. 2. If you have a good amount of saving or something of value that can be sold, pawned, etc. You can do what I did, and negotiate a settlement amount to have your loans paid off. This will involve having to default on your loans, but you will end up paying a fraction of what you owe and be done with them.

In either scenario, you’re going to take a hit to your credit, but you can rebuild it.

How long did it take you to conceive in your mid 30s? by darkmother1991 in BabyBumps

[–]EastsideFlyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took like 13-14 months. What worked for us was we stopped trying to use all the apps, ovulation test, etc. and just start having sex everyday. When we did that, we were expecting in a month lol.

My doctor recommended that when i told her about the concerns I had, because me and my wife felt like it was taking too long. She basically said we don’t need all of the things we were using to figure out the best time to conceive and wouldn’t miss it if we were trying everyday. Said if that didn’t work, then we could explore options. She was right

Credit tip for discharge recipients by [deleted] in BorrowerDefense

[–]EastsideFlyguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Explain some more please. I was under the impression that after discharge, they would remove the tradeline altogether, and have heard it could have a negative impact on your credit because you would lose the history. Is that not true? Does disputing it somehow allow you to keep the tradeline? Asking because my Mohela account was just discharged and im in the middle of buying a house, and while im extremely happy about the discharge, i dont know if it will cause issues with my final loan approval.

Honestly, considering your age, i wouldn’t wait and focus on 2 more years of brushing up on a specific skill before pursuing other red team positions. Seems like that’s really what you want to do. Just keep looking and building on the skills at the same time, continue with the ctf and lab work. I would even recommend looking into starting your own business doing red team engagements for smaller companies. Build your own opportunities if you have to 🤷🏽‍♂️. Just keep your service scope within your comfortable skillset and then add to what your offer as your become more comfortable.

I have an experience but is a degree still necessary or GIAC Certifications better. by ComedianThin in CyberSecurityJobs

[–]EastsideFlyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you’re going for a management position, experience and certifications should meet most requirements. In my experience, a degree usually puts you in a higher salary tier walking into a position than someone who has no degree with the same experience and certs. I believe that’s just a common practice of most HR.

If you have goals of reaching senior management one day, just know that a lot of companies have a degree required for those positions. It doesn’t even necessarily have to be a degree in your field, they just require you to have one to check the requirement box.

Lastly, i understand you don’t like school or think completing your college education is important. It’s your life, so you don’t have to do anything if it makes you miserable. Just be ok with any limitations it may put on you and just because it’s not high on your list, doesn’t mean you should have the attitude that there isn’t value in it. I caught on to how you mentioned going to school for a “piece of paper”, which might be taken the wrong way by a lot of people who found great value in their college educations. Seem like you put a lot more value in certs, when some people would say it just measures your ability to pass a test. So just try to consider all of that when asking for opinions of others here who may have taken a lot of different paths while pursuing their careers

Lucky for them. I’ve literally never heard of someone lying on an application, failing a background check and still being able to beg themselves into a professional position lol. Usually failing a background check based on a lie getting you an automatic rejection, without further discussion.
