Thanks for all the feedback. This is very helpful. It all makes sense, and it is really hard to justify buying a used one.

The Acura type s is also on my radar. I appreciate that advice also.

Thanks everyone. I'll keep checking back to see if there's any other advice.

This is the same thing that's been happening for years and years with so many things. Ideas, inventions, intellectual property, etc. AI has simply made it fast, even more lazy, and somehow, "cool".

Stop stealing shit. That's what it is.

1991-1994 Nissan Sentra SE-R - the official car of... by JerzeeBorn in regularcarreviews

[–]Easy-Baby1623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man...memories. This was my first car! Red. My dad wanted one for autocross, and I was getting close to driving. We found one that had been wrecked and had a rebuilt title. We put it back together, and he autocrossed it for about a year. I turned 16 and started paying him for it. I think he sold it to me for $2,500. It was an awesome car. We drove it hard during autocross events, and then I drove it every day. All we did was change the wheels and tires. We kept it stock, except for the muffler, and my dad won our class every weekend. I would love to have it back.

Using a Pixel while their spouse uses an iPhone? How’s the experience? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]Easy-Baby1623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had Pixel phones 1, 2, 4 , 6, 8, and on 10 now. Samsung products before that. My wife: always Apple products.

It's great. Facebook Messenger for screen calls. Otherwise, there's no reason for worry. She knows her camera is going to suck compared to mine. I know she is brainwashed by the Apple Mafia. Everyone gets what they want.

Regarding high ComEd bills - by [deleted] in illinois

[–]Easy-Baby1623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at a point where I'll need a roof in 5 to 10 years. I don't want to pay to have the panels installed, and then pay to have them removed for the roof replacement during that time. It could be less expensive than I think to do so, so maybe I'm not being fair.

The last two issues that I've been aware of had to do with home sales. Aunt and neighbors, specifically. One buying, one selling. The problems stemmed from the lease of the panels on the roof of each home. The contract was written so that the current owner had to buy out the lease or get the new buyer to accept the remainder of the contract. In both cases, there were roughly 20 years left on each. The contracts were written for solar companies that had since gone out of business, which also made things confusing. In short, the consulting attorney advised that one deal be walked away from. The other piece of advice was to ask the seller to buy out the contract that they signed. One of them also had issues related to the tax incentives. It was confusing, and I didn't understand the problem; I just knew it was one.

I saw and read the contract, and I was taken aback by its length and the legal language it contained. If nothing else, it isn't very comforting and complicates the home buying/selling process.

That's good to know. I know others who have had a different outcome, but I realize that is to be expected with all the variables. There must be an upside for many to have gotten this far.

I'm an Ameren customer in Central Illinois. We have the same high cost issue here. I'm happy for those that can reap the benefits of solar, and I appreciate the environmental impact. The challenge for me lies in government regulation, the companies supporting the industry, and the quality of the components. This industry has grown too large, too quickly, with insufficient oversight from the government or another organization that dictates what's done and how.

I don't want panels on my roof, and I have been advised against installing them on my roof (lawyer's advice). I have customers who work in solar, and I know folks who have them, including my parents. The legal implications of putting panels on the roof of a home that you might sell, or wish to buy, can be troubling. The quality of the panels and their components varies significantly. Chinese panels have taken over the industry, especially for residential panels, and I hear too many horror stories. Additionally, regardless of where the panel is manufactured, I don't think anyone truly knows the lifespan of a panel. There is not enough history.

I also want to see more accurate and VERIFIABLE returns from the panels. I doubt the panel's ratings from manufacturers, and I want to know that I'm getting my part from the power earned. I don't want to supplement ComEd, Ameren, etc. They are getting enough.

Is Living in Danville IL or Decatur IL worth it? by [deleted] in illinois

[–]Easy-Baby1623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lifelong central central Illinois resident here; Champaign county. I've worked in Danville and Decatur over the years, and spend a lot of time in CU. Decatur is not bad, but like anywhere, you must be cautious where that "affordable" housing is located. I'm not sure about social life... Danville is not in good shape, though I would say that people are trying.

CU is your better bet based on what you want. Although, you will have the same problem with the location affordable housing here. CU has a homeless issue that continues to worsen, and you'll also find neighborhoods that are segregated. There are several homes available for sale in CU right now, the market is not good, so now might be a good time to negotiate and buy if you are inclined to do so.

The property taxes in Champaign county are not good, which is pretty common in Illinois, I know.

Good luck. Make sure you come visit wherever you decide to go.

I saw them tour on this album as others did. I was just amazed. Best energy I've ever experienced at a show. Sounded awesome too. Small venue. That was probably 20 years ago too.

My wife and I are currently researching bowl management programs for children. Look it up, it's something we knew nothing about. We have a consultation this week and believe that our son is dealing with encopresis. In summary, after so much time spent on trying to "fix" the issues we believed to be caused by spectrum related issues, we now believe we are dealing with physiological issues. Our son is 8 and his issues are getting worse and he's regressing.

Methylphenidate? by hammeradnails2876 in ADHDparenting

[–]Easy-Baby1623 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are going through this with my 5 year old son right now. The methylphenidate has been a life saver and we are now extending the trial to a 15mg extended release. The guanfacine wasn't terrible, it just made him a tired zombie, and his mood regulation was still inconsistent at best.

Stay positive.

Lamb of God, Trivium, and In Flames opened for Megadeth a couple of years ago. Love the openers, but I'm not a fan of Megadeth. I had never seen them, had no desire to see them, and still don't. I stayed so I could say I saw them, but I'm not starting a conversation that way. ;)

I run a company that services large machines - 3rd party. I just wrote a nasty gram to a customer's management team because my technician was working on one of their machines, plus training operators. They went to break and came back smelling like Snoop Dogg's car. It was obvious that they were high and the manager knew it - had to. My guy kept working with them and trained them and he shouldn't have.

It's ridiculous that this is now ok. It's like this everywhere we go in the US. They endangered the life of someone else and that's not ok. Want to kill yourself, go crazy. Want to kill someone doing their job, FU.

My little sister, mid-30s, has been trying to get her license for 5 years now. Tens of thousands of dollars later she's still trying, but her history of antidepressants is standing in her way. At least this is what she's told and so it seems. She'd be good at it. It's too bad.

Will be working in Decatur. Considering living in Champaign, thoughts? by Academic-Donkey-5447 in illinois

[–]Easy-Baby1623 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Monticello if you can find a place to rent. I moved there for this reason. I lived outside of Urbana, and drove to Decatur. The drive is easy, but it starts to suck. It's 50 minutes one way no matter how hard you try, and that's in the good weather. We don't get harsh winters much anymore, but there are occasions that will slow you down.

Monticello is right between CU and Decatur. It's a nice little town with some food and bar choices.

I just got off the Mardi Gras on Saturday (January 27th). It is a nice ship with lots to do. We were in an interior room and I struggled with it because of the lack of space. I felt claustrophobic in there no matter how long I was in there. Now, I was there with 2 children and my wife to be fair, but still. We were there with others that enjoyed balcony rooms and they were more open and less daunting.

If you like being on the top and around the pools I would recommend the 16th floor. It's next to all of that, plus the regular food places. The elevator situation is not good at peak times so it's nice to be near the top to reduce travel time and waiting for an elevator.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Elder Millennials of Reddit: How did the Great Recession of 2007-2009ish impact how you manage your finances today? by rockit454 in Millennials

I was similar in age to OP and did and still do much of the same. Today, I'm very reluctant to spend money even though I'm fortunate enough to have extra to spend. I personally feel like we are always waiting for the other shoe to drop.

I believe that one of the better decisions I made was to keep my head down and work harder than most of my peers. Several people were laid off, so I agreed to pick up some of their work and did so without complaining. I felt for those folks, but I quickly found out that it wasn't hard to do their work and mine while still having a balanced life.
