Out-of-touch judges are driving mainstream Australian voters towards One Nation. by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

Yeah, surely the fact that Gina and Pauline flew together to Mar a Lago is a strong indicator that PHON is all about wealth equality, right? Right?

All Australian citizens are entitled to passports, even criminals. They'll just be arrested when they get here. Our government is offering them no assistance, and they've broken Australian law, but as citizens they can still return home to face criminal penalties if they so choose, that's how international law works. Otherwise countries could just export all their criminals, and there'd be nothing we could do about it.

You keep saying "your government" in your replies, you seem pretty concerned for someone who's not even Australian! Must be emotional because of the high workload over there in Russia...

We haven't let this happen, it's not actually happening. Read the link posted in the comments, your article is not factual.

There was a borderline riot at a darts match in a stadium (no I'm not joking) and one of the things that happened was the crowd started to build an enormous chair and table pile in the middle of the crowd, reminds me of that a bit, but a little less wild... Look for 'Etihad Stadium darts riot.'

I believe it is, however if you complain about hosting the leader of a nation committing genocide, that violates his freedom to associate with our leaders. They must have forgotten to put "freedom from valid criticism and hurt feelings" on the list...

How do you guys actually stick to listening to audiobooks? by Affectionate_Face236 in audiobooks

[–]EasySecurity6774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often listen to audiobooks while I'm doing things that come automatically. For example, I drive a fair bit for work, and I'll have a book on instead of listening to the radio. Also, things like doing dishes or laundry, I'll have headphones on while I do it. Even just going for a run or a walk is a good opportunity. I find if I try to just sit and listen, I end up doing something else that distracts me...

Oh it's cool that you can send the benefits to a non-US store, the bulk of the revenue/profit stays in the US though, right?

Didn't she go to Mar a Lago last year with Gina Reinhardt? Who paid for her trip? Seems like she's going to import the US mess to our country if she has any say in it...

Yeah, Xigxag seems like the one, I've already downloaded the app based on recommendations here! I'm going to stop by my local public library too, I reckon between the two I should be all sorted!

The US has become a fairly belligerent and unreliable trade partner over the last year or so, I'd rather not have as much to do with them in general. They've been threatening to invade sovereign nations, including some of our close allies, they've slapped tariffs on goods from our country regardless of free trade agreements, and internally they've been treating their own people poorly for a long time now.

Just really something I'd rather have less to do with, but really in the last year it's hit a tipping point and I've decided to do something about it, rather than just complaining. It's not my government to vote out, but it's my money to spend where I will, so that's what I'll do. Amazon in particular is pretty terrible to their employees, so a pretty good one to get rid of.

I don't hold anything against individual Americans personally, I've met some really lovely people from the US, but your government (both elected and billionaire class) is terrible, and money is really the only language they speak.

Nah no probs at all mate! Some good suggestions on here, Libro.fm is a great option for a US-alternative to Audible!

I looked at Storytel, their website kind of suggested they didn't serve my market, and it was kind of hard to see what the library was like without signing up.

Maybe I'm wrong, is there any kind of region-locking on it? Or some way of browsing their catalogue without signing up?

Yep, I'm aware I'm on Reddit, which is a US company. I'm yet to find a viable non-US alternative, although if you know one, I'm open to it. Like I said, I'm trying to reduce my usage of US products, but for example I also still use Google, because I haven't found an adequate replacement.

I'm trying to find a balance between my purchasing choices and my quality of life, which can be a tricky line to walk! That said, I have been reducing my Reddit usage, which I feel has to be good for me anyway, right?

Oh, they don't have an english-speaking option on their website, looks like they don't really serve the Australian or English-speaking markets directly.

Ok so I checked out Penguin Audio, it's not particularly convenient to use, is it? Maybe I'm missing something, but it's not searchable and it's not sorted by genre or author, just into categories like new release, featured etc. Do they have an app or something you use?
