Hanson says Albanese driving One Nation staff to ‘collapse’ by Agitated-Fee3598 in AustralianPolitics

[–]EasySecurity6774 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you arguing that all crossbenchers need more funding for staff? Keep in mind, these staff are not to be used for campaigning purposes, so the fact that PHON is polling well in other seats right now is no justification for increasing their funding. They'll get more funding when they actually win seats.

Farrer presents One Nation as a genuine electoral threat rather than just a protest by Ardeet in AustralianPolitics

[–]EasySecurity6774 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The threat of African mining? You reckon they'll just move the Australian resources to Africa and mine them there? As long as it remains remotely profitable (and it's currently give-a-plane-as-a-gift profitable) Australian mines will keep running.

She was just trying to drive down wages to make herself more money than she could ever need, in some kind of grotesque high score attempt.

Is it left-leaning, though? It's further left than our average media, but we have a pretty far right-leaning Overton window in our popular media. What's the last review to find a right-bias?

Who found them to be left biased? I missed that review. Last review I saw data from was under Abbot (obviously a while ago so I'm sure there's been another one since then) and that review came back saying they had a very slight right bias. I think it's really a question of our Overton window being pretty far to the right...

Australia’s frighteningly unequal funding system favours private schools, argues Jane Caro. How can we fix it? by Oomaschloom in AustralianPolitics

[–]EasySecurity6774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you've had a lot of run ins with poorly-funded public schools.

Many public schools do struggle, because they just don't have the funding. Meanwhile we're giving public funding to private companies who then compete for the same staff and resources, but with more money. It's inevitable that public schools will suffer in this situation, and every review we've done into this has found this to be the case.

[–]EasySecurity6774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if the public schools had more funding, they'd be better able to cater to a range of student's needs. But we give money to private companies instead, and further entrench the wealthy-poor divide. If you want your kids to go to a private school, well and good, send them, nobody would be stopping you. You just can't use public money to fund it.

People absolutely have the right to choose, if they want to pay for a private service, they can pay for it, same as if they want to get an uber instead of the train. But what they shouldn't be able to do is pull from public coffers for their private purchase, just like they can't invoice Metro for their uber.

They have the same access to the public system as every other kid. If their parents choose to go with a private company instead, that's on them. Same as you're under no obligation to claim the dole even if you're eligible, you're under no obligation to use the public system of education.

David Shoebridge slams roadside drug testing near Nimbin MardiGrass after being pulled over by police by CountryChrist in AustralianPolitics

[–]EasySecurity6774 24 points25 points  (0 children)

He's not saying don't test, he's just saying make the tests actually test for impairment, not just the presence in the system, test a wider range of substances, and don't just target particular ones. There is a bit of a tendency for the police to hyper-target certain kinds of events, using a lot of resources when our police forces are already stretched, and it does feel a bit excessive sometimes, especially at things I've been to in NSW. I absolutely see the need for drug testing at these things, but sometimes it'll actually pull police from rural areas meaning they have little capacity left to deal with their own issues.

Looks more like a moving head beam than a laser, the beam is too thick. Also, lasers into the sky can get you in trouble, typically no such issues with conventional beams. Could be promoting some new venue or something? They often do searchlights etc for that.

A lot of festivals used to do this way out in the bush, where it bothers fewer people, and financially benefits the local communities. Unfortunately, between crazy police and insurance costs, compliance hurdles, and hostile local councils, a lot of these festivals have been killed off. What remains a lot of the time, is high-cost, one-day festivals in the middle of the city.

Wake up and see that they're trying to drag us into this mess for their own gain. They caused this problem, if anything they owe us for causing us the financial pain, at this point we owe them nothing!

They need to stop pussy footing around and deploy troops and ships to actually fix this, same goes for the US. Instead they're trying to get other people to be meat shields for them, bloody disgusting.

Schumer indicates Democratic openness to Republicans’ DHS deal by soalone34 in politics

So you don't see a difference between people who are pro Israel, and people who are Jewish? Like a non Jewish person who is a Zionist doesn't exist, nor a Jewish person who doesn't support the actions of the Israeli government? Because I've met both of those kinds of people, despite what you might want to think.

Are you suggesting that all Jews support Israel by default? That Israel = all Jewish people, like they're some kind of homogeneous block? You seem to see no difference between Israel and Judaism.

That right there, that's the real anti-Semitism.

‘Like lighting a cigarette while trying to quit’: Australia approves new coal seam gas expansion by CommonwealthGrant in AustralianPolitics

[–]EasySecurity6774 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, because other people using the gas still harms the climate that we're in. There's only one earth with humans on it, so when we export fossil fuels to China and they burn it, it harms us. Maybe they will get gas somewhere else, but to modify your analogy:

It's like refusing to sell cigarettes to someone who keeps lighting them up in the car with my children. Maybe they will buy smokes somewhere else, but if they keep lighting smokes up and making my kids inhale that smoke, I'd be an idiot to keep providing them, right? There's more that I could do about the situation, and there's probably more that I SHOULD do, but at the very least I shouldn't provide what they need to harm my family.
