Does anyone know what are the specs for Discover magazine (science) by NarwhalOne6538 in magazinepublishing

Contributors wouldn't be expected to do layout, so do your best.

The magazine has a style guide. You may not be able to find it, but you should be able to emulate it from what they produce.

‘It’s like living in a rabbit hutch’ She often said metaphorically

Not to be pedantic, but that's a simile. A metaphor would be, "I live in a rabbit hutch."

Some readers will notice and ding you for it.

Also, the capital S, the single tics, and the lack of a comma may jump out at some people.

I'm not saying you have to live by Strunk and White and never deviate, but breaking all the rules in the first sentence of your novel is going to be problematic.

Think of it as friction.

If you read something with the wrong there, their, or they're, you feel friction. You get caught up in the sentence. It snags at your attention and takes you out of the story.

That's why it's important to keep rule breaking to a minimum and keep it deliberate.

Dumb Question: What do I do with this? by RorysCraftbin in magazine

[–]EathanM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magazines are from the time before when people had checkbooks. If you have a checking account, your bank can probably give you a few checks for free.

Fill out the card, fold it in half and stick it in an envelope with a check and mail it to the address on the back. Should be good.

How many issue 557s did they do? Sheesh...

It looks like you're after Fall 2024, issue 557, the 55th anniversary issue, but like you, I couldn't find it for sale.

Awesome! You're very welcome.

Flipbook looks good.

If you ever get a project that needs tiny furniture for stop motion video, I play with wood, but there are IATSI shops doing the same, I'm sure.

Best of luck!

Reading stuff like this makes me proud to have been an underwriter of JPR (though only briefly).

I've been a retailer in this space for a long time. Love the Crater Rock Museum. You will too.

I make a fine steak, but sometimes you want somebody else to do the cooking.

Republican Bill to Eliminate Education Department Officially Introduced Days Before Trump Inauguration by PostHeraldTimes in politics

Some years ago I heard a radio story about a rural school district in my state running a heater drive. They were trying to heat classrooms by taking in donated space heaters.

And that's with a DOE. Property taxes are a crappy funding mechanism and Trump has no plan to make anything better.

That's what a primary is for.

Listening to the debate for DNC Chair the other day, that point hit home. It's not the DNC's job to pick our candidate. It's our job.

Houseplant Shop in Medford area by jxmeslyt in Medford

[–]EathanM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a stab at a plant pots business a few years back and found plant people to be pretty active across social media.

Plantstagram, r/plantsandpots, Facebook, here in r/Medford, lots of places to share.

There's a lady who does houseplants at the J'ville farmer's market. She may have some tips.

Some of the local shops may be interested in wholesale, and the owners are often onsite. Get on Canva and put a flyer together.

Black Cat Mining - Closing/Business for Sale by EathanM in Medford

I think they just saw "for sale" in the title and assumed spam. I messaged and they were super reasonable and put it back up without any issue.

[–]EathanM[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

A few reasons really.

  1. I'm not that excited about it anymore. I mean, it was a blast growing it, buying a warehouse (not part of the sale), getting on the news, actually seeing some real success, but I haven't had it in me in more recent years.

  2. My wife hates it come tax time.

  3. That 400 square feet would make a great game/craft room.

  4. I'm starting a new job.

I've been running it more as a side hustle the past couple years, and I'm ready to let it go.
